Chapter 8: What's With The Two Of You
Jisung knew better than to escape the interrogation waiting for him in the living room. He knew full well that the time would come when he had to reveal everything that truly happened between him and Hyunjin. That they are exes that chose to hate each other just because of their fucked-up break up that none of them could even get themselves to remember.
It was too painful to remember.
Besides, who really knew what went on between them? Only the two of them would understand the story.
He hated the eyes that suddenly looked over to him when he walked inside the living room, it felt as if he was some prey waiting to be devoured by them. He knew this was just a feeling but he couldn't help the anxiety that spiked up upon sitting down by Hyunjin.
Hyunjin coughed, taking the attention off of him. He doesn't know if he did it on purpose since Hyunjin knew the condition that he is but he's thankful otherwise. He peeked at their faces, some were restless to fire questions yet they knew better. He could feel the curiosity brimming in them enough to tell that they wanted to ask something for a very long time.
He took a glance at Hyunjin, he seemed to be indifferent towards this and he didn't get how he could do that. Especially how he let Hyunjin see his vulnerable state earlier despite that he had seen them multiple times before... when they were still together. He felt silly about what he had done but there's no turning back this time.
"Okay. Now that we are all settled." Chan began, "Mind telling us why you two are so hostile with each other? This just isn't some jealousy or plain hate. There must be some reason behind this."
Hyunjin took a deep breath as Jisung held his breath as he awaited what Hyunjin would tell the others. This is it, he'll tell them the truth behind all this.
"We're just rivals at school." Jisung is taken by surprise by this, he looks at Hyunjin as he tries to school his expression to a more neutral one. He doesn't know where he's going with this.
"Just rivals?" Minho asked, "How bad is your rivalry with each other to get your hatred this far?"
Jisung tried to step in, "It's not-"
"It is." Hyunjin shot him a look, telling him to shut the fuck up. "We hated each other for so long that I can't even remember the reason behind why."
"...But why?"
Jisung sighed, "It's just as simple as that. I hate him, he hates me. What's going to change that?"
"Why are you rivals though? What are you fighting for to hate each other?" Seungmin asked, suspicion rising in his eyes as their reasons didn't add up.
"Academic." Jisung rolled his eyes at that. It's such a dead giveaway, how dumb could he be to say that? "He cheated." Jisung snapped his eyes at him.
"Excuse me? What do you mean I cheated?" He turns to Hyunjin, holding his collar tight in his hand. "Maybe you did."
"Here we go again with your blaming ass. I am not wrong with this one. You're the fucking reason of it all!" Hyunjin spat at him.
Jisung seethes in anger, "What the actual fuck?! You are the fucking root of this, don't you dare blame it all on me. Is this some sick joke you're playing with me again?"
"Again? Again?!" Hyunjin grabbed him by the collar, their faces inches away from each other as they stared each other down. "Fuck you. Fuck you Han Jisung! I hate you!"
"That's enough!" Chan chose to step in, "Both of you are always doing this. I can't understand why you just can't communicate. Just talk like a proper adult!" Chan exasperated. They both took a deep breath.
"He's a traitor." Jisung hissed, adding another fuel to the fire as if it wasn't enough. This caused Chan to have a headache as they argued with each other again, wanting nothing else but to blur everything but that would mean that they'll continue like this.
"You don't get it! I did everything for you yet you betrayed my trust." The members felt that they were stepping into another memory lane, their words with each other have always been vague and they can't solve what their real problem really was. "I gave up so much for you, but you can't even do that for me?"
"You think I didn't do enough for you?" Hyunjin let out a breath, "I gave my whole life for you and yet that's not enough? When will it ever be enough for you?" Before Jisung could say another word, they felt a hand on their shoulder. They broke their stare with each other and looked at Chan.
"I don't know what's really going on anymore and how deep the wound is. Rivals or what. There's always so much anger and sadness between you two and so much... history. That we can't explain and I just... I hope we can help even just a little. That's why we're here, yeah?"
"He'll never understand." They both said at the same time.
"Then make each other understand. Is that so hard?" Minho interrupted, "You can scream and yell at each other for days but it won't lead to anything at all, won't it?"
Hyunjin rolled his eyes, "Easy for you to say." You got him.
"Yah." Minho warned, "Don't start that attitude with me, Hyunjin. You think I'll let you go when you made Jisung cry?" Why, is he yours?
"Hyung." Jisung spoke up, "Just... stop, please?" His own eyes are welling up with tears once again as if he didn't have enough crying anymore.
Hyunjin scoffed, "I'm going to bed." He pulled away from Jisung and away from the living room, no one bothering to come after him.
"Sorry, hyung. I can't do this today." Jisung also stood up, "I'll sleep at Minho-hyung's." He, then, left the room. Leaving the members in various states.
"That didn't go as well," Changbin commented. "I'm... worried."
"I think we should just leave them. Let them heal on their own time." Seungmin speaks up, "Things at least have calmed down slightly. They... They spoke their own words with each other and we can't keep meddling with their business."
"They'll get better, right hyung?" Jeongin asked.
"I... hope so." This time, Chan isn't so sure anymore but there is still hope hanging by the thread that they'll get over this soon.
