Hailey makes her way out of Hank's office, glancing around the Intelligence desks to see where Alex had wound up. She began to wonder if he had ran off back down the stairs he had just walked up after the comment and stares. She wouldn't blame him, to be honest.
However, as Erin came out of the break room and pointed inside, a smirk formed on Hailey's face. Of course that is where he would end up out of all the places at the district. She just hoped she did not hold the taste of it against her as she made her way inside the kitchenette.
"Of course you would find the coffee as soon as you got here," she comments with a chuckle to herself, causing him to look up and smile back at her in return. It was nice to see the smile as every worry had crossed her mind since Adam dropped the comment, wondering what he was thinking. What if his mind had just crossed the same path that Hank had suggested? "You'll have to excuse that stunt from Adam. He's like the little brother of the unit that doesn't know when to shut his mouth sometimes. He lets things slip out of his lips without thinking if they are the right thing to say."
"Just like Kyle relentlessly has been teasing you?" Alex tries to ease the tension over the comment, liking the smile that formed on Hailey's face to match his own. "My biggest fear of coming here was having to face Hank in having heard how relentless he could be. I never thought it would turn out to be meeting your desk sergeant Trudy and having her judge me. Then I never thought it'd be Adam that would turn things on their head so quickly, as he did, just based on what you had told me about him. I was also surprised by the fact Erin was the one to give me the best advice over everything. I thought she would be caught off-guard the most and keep her distance."
"Because she's with Ja-"
"She's the reason that you and Jay got a divorce. She's the first love that captured his heart more than anyone else could have ever, and got it back the moment she returned to his life." Hailey nods her head, knowing there was no denying that from the first eye glances the pair traded upon being reunited. Even with a bullet in his chest, Jay had those gawking eyes for Erin. That only continued from the moment he woke up, with the eventual truth being no surprise for anybody. Maybe that was why it was easier to accept when he told her the truth.
"I cannot deny that I was not upset or angry about it. I cannot deny that it got under my skin, and that's why I walked out of your house that morning. I almost wish I would have stayed and got to know you now." Alex chuckles nervously a little, which she caught immediately as she sat down and took his hands with her own. It was obvious Adam's comment was on his mind more than he was willing to let her know right now. "I can officially say that I can let him go. The reason? It's simple - it's sitting here staring right back at me right now."
"Really?" Hailey nods her head as she takes a deep breath. She was not expecting that response, but was going to roll with it anyway. She was going to do anything to ensure his attitude did not change.
"I love you more than I have loved any other person in this whole world. It drives me absolutely crazy when we are not together - something that didn't happen with Jay or Adam. We have a connection to where we can talk about anything, and I can share my deepest secrets. You are the only person that I can do that with, Alex. There's also the chemistry that I cannot wait to reconnect with once we get back to my place later. We both know that we cannot keep our hands off of each other." Alex couldn't help but smirk at the thought in knowing he was going to very much enjoy what she had to offer with that tease. If it was as good as the first time at her condo, there would certainly be a lot of fireworks. "I never thought I could drop my life for someone and make them my biggest priority. But I did that for you when you had your wreck. I would do it all over again for you anytime, anywhere, because of how much I care and love you. That's why I am willing to give all of this up to spend more time with you. That's why I have began having those conversations with Jay, Kim, and even Hank a little. That's why I began to think about other career opportunities. There is no other person that has ever made me ponder that as a possibility. I never thought that I would leave Chicago. I though this is where I belonged for the rest of my life. Clearly, I am learning that was a lie I told myself because I belong in North Carolina cuddled up with you every night as Finn lays his head on my foot."
"Finn appreciates yo-"
"And I love him more than I may show sometimes. I have not been around dogs a lot my life so it's an adjustment in getting used to having them as a pet, the dog slobber, the brushing up against, fur everywhere, and waking up to a wet nose in my face." Alex had to chuckle at that, but couldn't help but smile. Finn never had done that with anyone else ever, except for Alex. Perhaps that was his true way of saying how much he loved Hailey, as well. "I love you, Alex Bowman. I would do anything for you and I want you to know that."
