Jimin had tried. He tried to defend Yoongi, tried to see him and talk to him.

He'd sat in an interrogation room for what felt like an eternity, telling the cops everything that had happened with those men who had come up to them that night. What he'd seen outside the window. In the end he wondered if he had done more damage than good.

The detectives had been assholes. Since day one, they were convinced it was all Yoongi.

"Tell us why your boyfriend did it."

"He's not my boyfriend," he'd insisted.

"Oh? So you just jump into bed with whoever?"

"Hyung would never hurt anyone," he ignored the jab. This wasn't about himself. This was only about defending Yoongi.

"Well your hyung isn't who you think he is. He's been in juvie did you know that? Used to get into a lot of fights when he was a kid. Guess those daddy issues finally got to him huh?"

"Yoongi isn't like that. All I know is that someone was after him and he was trying to get them to go away by paying what his dad owed them. It was always about his dad."

"You're absolutely right! His dad was the bad guy. His dad hit him. A lot. He hurt him bad. And Yoongi finally snapped."

"No. That's not what I meant–"

"But It's what happened–"

"No! Yoongi would never do anything like that! He protects people, he doesn't hurt them!"

"What about the kid who he put into a coma?"

"Wh-what?" That had made Jimin stop dead.

"Yeah." the detective nodded. "He did that. He was what like 13? "Hit him so hard he knocked him out for a solid month. The kid had to relearn how to eat."

Jimin shook his head fervently. "I don't believe that. And even if he had that's not who he is now. He's never hurt anyone since I've known him. He's a good person."

Good people don't kill their fathers.

"Yoongi didn't kill anyone." At this point, Jimin had started to cry. The cop hadn't even looked moved. Probably used to people crying all the time, but Jimin's tears were sincere.

"You wanna stake your life one that? Because you could be seen as an accomplice if you're hiding anything Jimin. You wanna end up just like him?"

Eventually, Jimin had heard that the jury had declared Yoongi guilty and he never saw him again.

He'd written to him, he'd tried to visit him, he'd even tried to visit Jungkook to know what happened but as it was, Jungkook and his mother had disappeared and nobody knew where they were. Not even Taehyung.

Jimin hadn't gone to the talent show, too distressed over everything that had happened. The winner, to his shock, had been Jungkook, who had performed a song with his lovely voice, taken the money, and ran.

Taehyung had moved too, texting Jimin only vague indications of where and how he was.

Nothing made sense. Jimin felt completely abandoned. His best friends had disappeared leaving him to deal with the aftermath all on his own, holding onto nothing for purchase.

At least, Jimin thought, at least he still had his soulmate.
