Chapter 4: Day Two

"Knuckles! Hey, Knuckles!"

Knuckles dragged Sonic out of Amy's house for them to 'hang out' as he put it. Sonic tried to pull his arm out of Knuckles's firm grip, but to no avail. Looks like he owes Silver a huge apology big time.

They glided, they went through forests and a tunnel. When, finally, they arrived on an island. "H-okay, I'm seeing a temple. What's so special?" asked Sonic as Knuckles continued dragging him.

Knuckles had no answer. Jeez, and I thought Shadow was stubborn... thought Sonic. Looks like Silver isn't the only one he owes an apology to. When they got to the temple, Knuckles finally let go of Sonic and spoke.

"Ages ago, my people, the Echidna, were wiped out by a cataclysm. Tikal, my ancestor, tried to stop them. We met a creature, called the Koco, who faced something similar." explained Knuckles.

"The Koco? What're they? And what did Tikal try to stop them from doing?" asked Sonic.

"The Koco are ancient beings who used the Chaos Emeralds to find safety and shelter. They found the Master Emerald. Tikal tried to stop my ancestors from using the Chaos Emeralds for selfish reasons." answered Knuckles.

Sonic nodded. "Well, I know that for a fact. Chaos Emeralds shouldn't be used for negative reasons. I tried, believe me, and... it didn't go well." agreed Sonic, referring to Fleetway. The only reason Sonic's still here and not a serial killer is because someone named Ebony sealed Fleetway inside Sonic.

"What happened?" asked Knuckles curiously. He could tell this was a personal topic as soon as Sonic ears drooped and he crossed his arms. "Sensitive topic, huh?" He realized. Sonic nodded, looking away from the Echidna.

"Let's just say when I harnessed the power of the Chaos Emeralds one time, it was unstable, and... things happened. I wanted to get more strength and power, but the unstable Chaos Energy corrupted me, turning me into something called Fleetway. It took control of me for about a month, before I was able to fight my way out of it and defeated Fleetway for good." explained Sonic.

That was NOT how things went really. The chaos energy was unstable, but it took about a month or two to truly get control of Sonic when he was walking around with his uncle, Sonia, and Manic. When he took control, Fleetway killed them all and only let go whenever the damage was already done. At first, Sonic decided that this was a one in the life time coincidence. An owl named Longclaw took him in, before Fleetway killed her as well. Chip, A.K.A. Light Gaia, sacrificed himself to make sure Sonic lived. Sonic vowed to never get that close to anyone ever again, so they didn't need suffer the consequences of having him for a friend. The only close calls Sonic had was with Cream and Vanilla, and with the Freedom Fighters. Sonic nearly fell in love with a squirrel named Sally Acorn before Fleetway tried to butt in. Sonic quit the Freedom Fighters despite their efforts to get him to stay. Thankfully, they managed without him. Sonic didn't dare to get attached to Shadow, Silver, Rouge, or Blaze. Another close call was with a human named Elise, who grew to have feelings for him. Sonic left right after Solaris was defeated and Silver's future was surely saved.

"Do you still have it?" asked Knuckles. "No, thank Chaos." lied Sonic. He couldn't tell Knuckles that he still had Fleetway inside. Knuckles would surely tell Amy and Tails, no matter what Sonic would say.

Knuckles nodded. "I'm supposed to protect this emerald, the Master Emerald," said Knuckles. He thought that it was a sensitive topic to talk about Fleetway, so he beat Sonic in terms of changing the subject.

"Well, I know one bat that you might wanna keep away from this emerald," joked Sonic. Rouge loved stealing emeralds. She nearly stole some of his before he managed to keep it away from her.

"I know. Rouge, right?" asked Knuckles. Sonic nodded. "She already tried. That irritating bat!" He grumbled. Sonic laughed at the red echidna, enraging Knuckles.

"Yeah, she told me about you too. She said that you're a grumpy red echidna who is knuckle-headed and you get tricked by Eggman a lot!" said Sonic, still laughing.

"Are you ALWAYS this irritating?!" asked Knuckles. "Sometimes," answered Sonic as his laughter died down. Knuckles grumbled angrily and continued looking at the Master Emerald.

"Am I going to be staying here for the night? I don't see any house." asked Sonic. "If you wanna. And yes, I do have a house. It's next to the Master Emerald." answered Knuckles. "I don't mind. I stayed with Tails and Amy so, why not?" shrugged Sonic, turning to the guardian.

"Follow me," said Knuckles. Thankfully, this time he didn't drag Sonic. Knuckles led him to the home, which was a hut. It was nothing special. It was better than his cave, Sonic knew that for sure! 

"Like it?" asked Knuckles. Sonic nodded. "You built all this yourself?" He asked. "No, I didn't. Tails helped me." answered Knuckles. "How long have you, Tails, and Amy known each other?" questioned Sonic. "Since the zombot situation," the guardian answered.

Sonic remembered the zombot situation. Basically, everyone was infected by the metal virus Eggman put around the Mobius. Zavok double crossed him and Eggman was furious. Sonic got infected as well, weakening him by the minute. Thankfully, he and Silver teamed up to cure everyone. Unluckily, when Sonic tried to ditch the device in the portal, he crash-landed in Blaze's dimension with amnesia, luckily able to get his memory back with the help of the Sol Emeralds and save everyone from an Omega-powered super bot.

"The zombot situation? That was a year ago." recalled Sonic. "Yeah. We met each other when we were cured. Our zombot selves were coincidentally next to each other when it happened. We stayed with each other for a few days, and teamed up with each other. We became heroes when we saw you on the news."

"Question, how did you know I was almost killed by Infinite?"

"Using Tails's invention, the Miles Electric. We tracked you down and thankfully saved you at the last minute."

"Yeah. Thanks, by the way."

"You don't have to thank us. That's what friends do."

Friends? asked Sonic in his head. "At least, that's what Amy told me. Anyway, where do you want to sleep?" asked Knuckles. "I mostly sleep on the roof, if that's okay. Not when it's raining, though!" said Sonic.

Knuckles laughed. "Sonic the Hedgehog + water = disaster." He said, still laughing as the blue blur crossed his arms. "I'm not gonna comment on that," sighed Sonic. He's been afraid of water since before Fleetway, and that was a long time.

"Anyway," coughed Knuckles after his laughter died down. "I'm going to go back to the Master Emerald. Hopefully Rouge hasn't stolen it yet. Let me know if you need anything."

"Uh, Knuckles?"

"Yeah?"

"Rouge already has the emerald."

"God, dang it! ROUGE! GET BACK HERE!!!" shouted Knuckles, chasing after her. Sonic laughed as Knuckles left, punching the door open. I hope he asks Tails to fix that for him, cause I won't.

Fleetway was laughing. "Are they friends of yours?" asked Fleetway. "NO. They are NOT my friends. Shut UP, Fleetway." said Sonic sternly. His laughter was silenced by Fleetway's, which filled the atmosphere like a freight train.

"Fine. I guess I should really let you get attached before I hit you where it hurts." guessed Fleetway. "NEVER gonna happen." argued Sonic as he climbed up the roof. He laid down, and attempted to go to sleep.
