On day five, Sonic could sense Fleetway was planning to kill Amy, Knuckles, Tails, and everyone else he met. He tried to ignore Fleetway, but what he was saying is true, he had gotten attached to the three of them, and everyone else.
Treating them more as friends- no- family instead complete strangers and admitting to the trio that they were his friends was all that was needed to give Fleetway the go-ahead on his plan to mentally break Sonic.
What really tempted Fleetway was when he heard that Amy, Knuckles, and Tails are going on a vacation. Sonic refused to come along, knowing that Fleetway would come out at any chance he could and make Sonic mentally weak enough to kill the trio.
Despite their attempts to convince him, Sonic refused and took off running, giving them their answer. Upset, the trio packed up their things, went on the tornado, flew above the ocean, and thought about why Sonic was acting so weirdly.
At Green Hills, Sonic had not as much as a fun time. Constantly fighting Fleetway, his willpower weakening with each microsecond that went by, and suffering all on his own. The only times Fleetway stopped was when someone like Cream came to check on him, which was rare.
The mental pain was unbearable for the blue blur. He almost considered running away from the island, but Fleetway tauntingly reminded him how he's completely useless underwater, and will sink like a rock.
So close to corrupting Sonic, Fleetway stopped when Sonic heard a ringing sound. He saw that it was his phone, and answered it. "Hey, Sonic! The vacation ended earlier than we realized, so-" started Tails.
"Do NOT come here!"
They were shocked and concerned. "Sonic? Is something wrong? You seem stressed!" noticed Amy. "I-I-I'll explain everything later, but just do NOT come here—" Sonic was cut off by a scream.
What immediately worried the trio was the fact that it was Sonic himself who screamed.
"Sonic?! What's wrong?!" panicked Tails, nearly loosing control of the plane. On the other side of the phone, since they could see him, they saw him screaming in pain. His fur turned from blue to golden and back again.
"SONIC?!" They shouted in unison. "D-Do not come here...!" said Sonic weakly. Then, a new voice took over. It was Sonic, but had red hypnotizing eyes and golden fur. "He's right, dear friends~ Don't come here. Well, if you wanna save him that is..." said the hedgehog sinisterly as he hung up.
The group was left astonished and concerned. "Tails," said Amy. "Get us to Green Hills, NOW."
"But Sonic said to-"
"Tails, we need to save him!"
"Alright, alright, Amy!"
Tails flew the Tornado in the direction of South Island.
