"Smile more!!"
"Aye- you! The chick with the band! Look over here"
"Don't use those masculine words with me, young lady"
"That's not very ladylike"
So many aggravating words from the paparazzi had been thrown at Y/N so far on this tour, and it had only been a week. Seriously, what's up with the sexism in the music industry?
Y/N was bothered, of course, like anyone would be; by she was used to it. She knew how to ignore it, how to snap back, how to scold them; like their mother obviously never had.Alex on the other hand?
He had known women had it hard, it was obvious facts, but seeing it this close up- it was really something else. And unlike Y/N, he didn't have quite such an easy time to swallow his emotions.
To say he was furious would be an understatement, and it surprised his mates that he hadn't punched one of those blokes so far; but it could only be a matter of time.
Sexism, he wasn't a fan of, quite clearly; but it really got to him more when it went about around people he cares about.
All he wanted to do in moments like those was to start up his Harley and run over those motherfuckers, but he couldn't for three reasons.
1. It would ruin his closest friends careers.
2. It would ruin his career.
3. Y/N would be mad at him.He just had to suck it up and feel it out, just like every woman unfortunately did everyday.
Watching the woman you lo- care about... being treated like a toddler, a piece of burnt toast-
It felt horrible, it felt worse than listening to Mitski.
It hurt more than falling down the stairs, and one of the steps hitting you right in the spine.
It hurt more than walking home after a breakup, heartbroken and sometimes drunk.
It hurt more than accidentally scratching one of your favourite records. But do you know what hurt even more than all of the above? Do you know what broke Alex's heart more than all of that? Something that hurt him deeper than him accidentally destroying his Leonard Cohen shirt in the dryer?
It was seeing Y/N so unbothered, so used to it.
He had known it was bad, but not that it was this normalised. The lights constantly flickering in his face didn't make his anger ease either.
"Alex! Over here!" Another flash.
"Alex! Mister Turner!"
"Hey you- what's her name? Agnes? Hey Agnes! Get out the way, you're covering Turner's face-"
"Her view is far more entrancing than mine" Alex said with a loud voice, eyeing the man with the dull looking camera as they continued their way to the car; and his words momentarily shut the people up before they began hopping onto Matt instead.
Alex simply rolled his eyes and opened the car door for the lady, getting in after her.
"You alright?" he asked, looking over at Y/N. Both his eyes and his tone of voice were far more softer than they were mere seconds ago, which definitely caught Y/N off guard and made her breath hitched slightly.
"...yeah- I'm-.. im okay" she nodded unsurely for a moment before a small smile crept onto her lips, which ultimately made Alex ease up and his mouth to slightly curve upwards too.
"Good.. that's good. Because I do, it's all for you" he managed said gently, right before the others got into the car.
Y/N's eyes widened at that, but with the others in the car she couldn't comment on it; so she just looked out through the window in silence as the motor started and her heart rate increased with it.
She had to ignore his words for this moment, as if it wasn't the most romantic thing anyone had ever said to her specifically; and the fact that it was only her "friend" made it matter so much more.
