I sat down on the bed, tapping my foot on the floor and looking outside at the birds flying around. They looked so carefree and free.

'What a simple life they lead, without many hardships,' I said to Liz as I focused on a small sparrow sitting on the grass in search of food, probably.

'What a boring life they lead, without many ups and downs,' Liz said and I shook my head at her.

Right then, there was a soft knock on the door and my head snapped in its direction.

"C-Come i-in," I said, goosebumps rising on my skin and my eyes glueing to the door.

The door opened slowly, teasing me and revealed Ethan as he slowly entered the room, closing the door behind him.

"Are you ready?" He said carefully and I nodded before standing up and walking over to him.

"Let's go, then," I nodded again as I followed him out. My heart was beating and I was really nervous just thinking about making food for new people.

About whom I didn't know what they liked to eat. That was gonna be a problem but I would try to be a fast learner and wouldn't give them a reason to punish me.

That thought led to another that, 'would Ethan, my mate, save me and protect me? Or would he join them?'

Lost in thought, I didn't notice when we reached the dining room and what I saw there really took me by surprise.

The food was already prepared and everyone was eating while talking and laughing.

Soon, my surprise morphed into horror as a guy stumbled upto Ethan and slapped his arm while laughing hysterically.

Did he wanna die? And by the hands of his own Alpha? Was he out of his mind?

I took a step back from where I had been hiding behind Ethan and watched the scene with wide eyes.

"Yo, Ethan, my man! You missed some good convo, dude," a guy said from where he was sitting at the table and I double checked if I heard that right.

'Did he just...?' I said with my mouth slightly ajar.

'Yep, he did,' Liz replied a little distractedly.

"Seems so, but I could care less at the moment. I am hungry and need food," Ethan said as he lead me to the vacant chairs and sat down on one of them.

I carefully sat down on the other while watching their reactions carefully. When they noticed me, the entire dining room went silent and all eyes focused on me.

Oh god, please, no. Why me?

"Stop staring and bring a plate of food for her," Ethan said with an edge to his voice and a guy started plating food for me. Everyone averted their eyes from me and focused on each other again.

'Thank god, but... should I go help him?' I asked Liz as I watched the guy prepare a plate with everything placed at the table for me.

'No,' she said as she laid lazily on the ground, just watching me suffer.

The guy who was way out of line and slapped Ethan was busy eating-no sorry-gulfing down food while the guy who called Ethan 'my man' just rolled his eyes at Ethan's command.

The atmosphere in the dining room was very light but I was sweating profusely and could not stop fidgeting my hands and feet.

The guy placed the plate in front of me with a small smile before going back to talking to others.

My jaw unhinged and almost fell to the floor before I closed my mouth. How was this possible? I was being served food and not the other way around.

I glanced at Ethan to see him eating as if this was normal routine. My god, this was not normal for me.
