His One and Only

Luna Ball

I woke up with a start and looked around the dark room. A sense of déjà vu passed over me but there was something a little different this time.

This time, I was safely tucked away in Ethan's arms and his scent was all that surrounded me, slowing down my thumping heart.

My mind slowed down to a gradual stop as I snuggled deeper into his embrace and he unconsciously tightened his grip on my waist.

It felt nice to finally be comfortable with my mate and not fear for my life when with him. Believing that he would keep me safe at all costs.

'That kiss did wonders to you! Look at you finally opening your heart to your mate!' Liz said which made me roll my eyes and blush a little.

'Whatever. I don't really care what you think, you lovesick puppy,' she growled at me and I stuck my tongue out at her.

Ethan stirred in his sleep and my body went stiff. I relaxed when he stopped moving and closed my eyes, inhaling his scent.

Then all of a sudden, the alarm started ringing which made me flinch and woke Ethan up. Seriously, he was such a light sleeper.

"Mornin'," he said after turning it off and looked at me with half-lidded eyes. His morning voice sent a shiver down my spine as he just stared at me.

"Morning," I replied with a smile and he gave me a smile of his own before he seemed to have entered a trance.

I propped myself up on my elbow but didn't say a word. A few moments passed before he reached his hand forward and caressed my cheek.

"May I kiss you?" He whispered as he slowly leaned in, his lips stopping just a breathe away from mine. He was also on his elbow now.

"Y-Yes," I whispered back and he touched his lips to mine. Sparks, fireworks, explosions, everything.

How could I even describe how it felt? It was...just perfect.

He smiled against my lips as I kissed back before we broke apart. Closing his eyes, he hummed and fell back on the bed.

"I wanna do this every morning," he said and I smiled. He took the words right out of my mouth.

"S-Sure w-we can. B-But next t-time, you d-don't need t-to ask," I said with another smile and got up from the bed, stretching before going to the bathroom.

I did my business, brushed my teeth and hair and washed my face before coming out, feeling ready to start my day.

Ethan got up from where he was sitting on the bed and kissed my forehead before going to the bathroom.

I took that time to text my aunt and Leah. Leah answered right away so we started chatting and before I knew it, Ethan came out of the bathroom looking fresh.

"Let's go," he said as he went to the door and I quickly told Leah before leaving my phone on the bed and following Ethan.

We walked in silence and soon reached the dining room which was bustling with life. I shrunk in on myself and hid my body behind Ethan.

He grabbed my hand and led me to the table, making me sit beside him.

Soon, two plates of sausages eggs and toast were placed in front of us.

I squirmed in my seat as Ethan started to eat. As if noticing my hesitation, he leaned towards me and whispered in my ear.

"You deserve this, my little mate. You are going to be their Luna soon, so they are just showing you that they accept you," I felt my eyes tear up.

'Acceptance'... Such a simple word, with so much power. I doubted they had already accepted me, they were just doing what they were supposed to.

I needed to show them that they could truly accept me. I kept these thoughts to myself and just nodded towards Ethan before continuing to eat.

After sometime, some questions popped in my head so I decided to just ask them if I wanted to wrap my head around this 'being a Luna' thing.

"U-Um... W-What a-are the duties o-of a-a L-Luna, anyway?" I asked but didn't look at him, it felt kinda awkward to ask questions, no matter how innocent it was.

I asked since I didn't have a good example to follow, the Luna at my old pack just went shopping, looked down at the workers and thought she was the most powerful being on the planet, next to the Alpha.

"Hmm, well, Luna is like the mother of the pack. She takes care of the internal affairs like; housing, schools, hospitals and other things like that. Also, she makes sure that all the pack members are doing well," he said and took another bite.

I nodded as I thought of how I could even begin to do something like that.

I felt no connection to these people, I didn't understand how I would even talk to them, let alone ask them how they were doing and most of all would they even want me to?

'Stop doubting yourself! An Alpha was chosen as your mate for a reason. Besides, you running away now would be the same as abandoning your duties,' Liz said.

'Who said that I would run away?! I am happy here and I am more than capable of taking care of these people like a true Luna!'

'Hah! You say that, but don't believe it. We need to work on that garbage, barely there self-esteem of yours first,'

'Shut up, you stupid wolf!' I said that, but she really did have a point. I couldn't run away now, besides, I liked my life now.

"Also, Luna ball is coming up..." Ethan muttered and I almost didn't catch it.

Luna ball...? A ball for the Luna, where everyone's attention would be on the Luna, a.k.a. me. That made me feel a little queasy.

Everyone would be there to see me, a complete loser who didn't even look like a Luna. Just a pale little girl.

My breathing got heavy and my hands shook, but I ignored that and drank some water. I couldn't get a panic attack at a moment like this.

"W-Why d-didn't y-you t-tell m-me s-sooner?" I asked as he placed his hand on my shoulder and made me lean on him, like a side hug. He rubbed my shoulder and kissed my forehead.

"I... I didn't tell you sooner because we weren't that comfortable with each other until just yesterday and I just... thought that... you wouldn't want to be my Luna.

I wanted to ask you if you wanted to be first and then tell you about the ball, but the time was running out. And I was too nervous. I also wanted to b-," I cut him off by grabbing his hand and kissing the back of it.

He was giving me all of my firsts and this was my first time being angry because someone kept me in the dark.

With him, it just felt like I could be myself without being scared of being rejected. I loved this feeling.

"I-It's ok, b-but y-you still sh-should've told m-me sooner," I said with a small smile as I finally looked at his handsome face.

He nodded like a little kid and smiled at me, his eyes twinkled in the light.

"Alpha," we were snapped back to reality as Harry came into the dining room, holding hands with his mate, Vanessa.

Vanessa smiled at me and I smiled back as Ethan and Harry talked. She sat down next to me before turning to look at me.

"Hey, Luna, how have you been?" She asked and I felt all my anxiousness fading away slowly.

"I've b-been fine. W-What a-about you?"

"Same as always,"

Just then, Ethan stood up and turned to me.

"I have a meeting, so I will see you later, Izzy," he said, seeming a little tense so I just nodded and he left with Harry tailing him.

"So, Luna?" Vanessa said as I stared after Ethan and I quickly looked at her. She kust smirked at me and I blushed.

"Y-Yes?" I said a little faster than normal.

"Luna ball is this Friday, what do you say we get ready together?" She asked, looking kinda excited and I just nodded just so I didn't have to be alone that day with my own stupid thoughts.

"Great. So, let me tell you what to expect at the ball so you can be prepared," she said and I suddenly felt awfully grateful towards her.

"Th-That would b-be lovely," I said as I leaned forward in my seat and she grinned at me.
