"So, Luna, these balls always take place on the full moon, as a result, they are absolutely brutal. What you need to keep in mind is that you never, ever, show weakness," she said as she stared deeply into my eyes. Hers glistening in the light.

"G-Got it," I said but from the inside, I faltered. I knew I didn't have what it took. She nodded once before continuing.

"At the ball, the Alpha enters first and makes a speech. Then the Luna enters," she said.

"Then, the former Luna is handed a knife. She will turn to you and say some things that you need to repeat after her," I nodded, trying to keep notes.

"After that, she will make a cut on her palm before handing the knife over to you. You need to make a cut as well and shake hands with her for the blood mixing. Then you will make your speech and that's it," she finished and turned to me with a smile.

I nodded through my worries and suddenly, a thought crossed my mind.

'If I were to be Luna, I had to be strong. But I have never trained before in my life.'

'Everyone starts somewhere, you know. What matters is that you work hard,' Liz said, catching me off-guard.

'Wow, seems like you finally grew half a brain or something,' I said half-heartedly as I built up courage.

"U-Um, Vanessa?" I said, looking down at my hands. She focused all her attention to me.

"C-Could I-I ask you f-for a f-favor?" I said as I pouted and blew the stray strand of hair from my face.

"Of course, Luna!" She said enthusiastically and my thoughts calmed down a little.

"C-Could y-you train me?" I said as my cheeks turned pink. A Luna, asking the Beta, to train her. How pathetic.

"Of course, Luna! I am the best trainer in the pack, you can count on me," she said as she punched her chest lightly.

I was about to thank her when a snort was heard. Everything became silent as I slowly turned to look at the culprit; Caroline.

"Training? I don't think training will make much of a change," she said as she went straight to a cabinet and took out a glass.

I turned to see Vanessa seething. I had to do something to diffuse the situation.

"I-I think i-it would. A-Atleast I w-wouldn't become a-a hurdle i-in anyone's p-path," I said as I looked straight at her. I sounded pathetic, but atleast I tried.

"Again with that stutter. Darling, that fake stutter of yours might make some people fall for it, but it won't work on me. Oh, and you're already a hurdle, sweetie, I don't think a little training will help with it," she said as she gulped down the water.

"Shut up, Caroline, before I make you. That could easily be reported as treason against the Luna," Vanessa spoke on my behalf which made me feel worse.

It was ridiculous how her words got to me. She wasn't that good with words but they hit right where it hurt.

"She isn't the Luna, yet, and can never truly be. You can't report me," she said calmly before leaving and Vanessa grumbled under her breathe.

"Luna, you don't need to take her words to heart. She just loves bringing people down who are close to the Alpha because she can never be among them," Vanessa said with a roll of her eyes and got up.

"Anyway, let's get to training. It will surely take your mind off of things," I got up and followed her out the door.

She took me outside and led me towards the forest with a spring in her steps.
