"This is a momentous occasion for both our nations," Kiyomi's voice echoed through the meeting room, drawing the attention of everyone present. The chatter of the sizable chamber started quieting down as the negotiations began.

You sat at the end of the table, opposite from Hizuru, with Historia beside you. Despite her composed exterior, you could sense the underlying nervousness in her composure. It was a familiar sight, one that you had grown accustomed to over the years of your friendship

"And it's worth noting that this day would never have come if not for the man who brought us together." Kiyomi continued, "Zeke Yeager."

The mention of his name stirred a resentment within you. It was difficult to accept that he had been working towards Paradis' benefit all along, especially when he had nearly risked his own life to wedge the dagger in further that was placed there the day he stole your brother.

Sometimes, you couldn't help but wish you had dealt with him differently during the chaos of Shiganshina and just finished him off there... Consider it an accident.

Your friends harbored the same feelings, and you could feel Levi tense at the table as well. But this conflict between you and Zeke extended beyond Paradis. It was personal--always was, always will be. Your goals may be aligned for now, but the second he steps out of line, it's over.

Historia's gaze flickered in your direction, a silent gesture of reassurance that did little to ease your mind. You returned her glance with a tight-lipped smile before redirecting your attention back to Kiyomi.

"Zeke Yeager's proposal was that we ally with and assist Paradis in exchange for access to a resource that has the potential to restore our nation to its former glory. It's a rather tempting offer." Kiyomi said excitedly, but you could tell she wasn't just excited about her nation's prospects.

Yelena had been astute in cautioning everyone about the Azumabitos' penchant for wealth. It was this insight, coupled with Paradis's possession of a valuable resource known as "Iceburst Stone," that could potentially tilt the scales in favor of the island during your discussions.

"Hold on," Historia's soft voice spoke up, "So I understand Zeke Yeager asked you to assist us. What would you assist us with?"

The raven haired woman turned her attention to the Queen, "As I'm sure you're aware, he's concocted a plan to protect Eldia and the world. We're here because this plan can only succeed with Hizuru's assistance."

A subtle reminder of how helpless Paradis is without them.

But that's what negotiations were, right? Subtle jabs at either side until you realized that fighting back is futile. You need them, same as they need you.

She picked up the copy of papers that had been placed in front of everyone, shuffling to stack to neaten it. Everyone directed their attention to the words, finally beginning to read the deal before them.
