hello, lovely readers. as you may have noticed, updates are coming a little slow. life is kind of catching up to me, and i don't have as much time with this internship to write like i thought i would. i also work part time on the weekends, which doesn't help as that's really my only other time to write. there's also some other stuff going on, but point is, i'm a little unmotivated recently.
but have faith! even when i disappear, i still haven't forgotten about this story. just please beware that chapters may come biweekly. however, i am trying to write longer chapters to make up for it.
speaking of which, this chapter was written with ~5,400 words so i'm splitting it up into two chapters instead :P please enjoy

A cool breeze tussled your hair as you, Hange, Levi, and Onyankapon scoured the streets for Eren. The sun had long since dipped below the horizon, leaving the cobblestone walkways to be lit up by the dim torchlight from the street lamps. Shadows stretched and shifted in the night, leaving your mind on edge.
No one spoke. The silence was thick and nearly suffocating. Eren's sudden disappearance had everyone on edge, and you were still reeling in silence from the ultimatum Kiyomi had abruptly cornered you into answering.
Hange walked beside you, hands in per pockets and a frown on her face. She kept glancing around, her remaining eye scanning the streets for any sign of Eren. Again, Onyankapon led the way, his familiarity with the city becoming the only thing that lessened your nerves.
You couldn't bring yourself to turn around, even with Levi's presence sending a quiver down your spine. He hadn't spoken since you accepted Kiyomi's compromise, and his silence only furthered the guilt you felt.
You frowned, your eyes trailing over the ground and the messy pattern of cobblestone. You didn't know how to speak to him right now.
As you rounded a corner, you caught sight of a flicker of movement in the shadows ahead that pulled you from your thoughts. Your heart leapt, hoping it was Eren, but as you drew closer, the figure revealed itself to be a stray cat, darting off into the darkness.
Your group sighed in frustration. It had been more than an hour since he disappeared, and the night was only just beginning.
The silence was finally broken by Hange, who let out an frustrated sigh. "That idiot," she hissed under her breath, "What does he think he's doing, running off like this?"
Levi grunted in agreement. "We don't have time for his nonsense."
You shared their sentiment but kept quiet as you glanced at Onyankapon, who remained focused on the path ahead. His silence was appreciated, but you could sense his concern.
"Any idea where he might have gone?" you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
Onyankapon shook his head. "Not exactly, but if he's trying to lay low, he might be heading towards the less populated areas. We should check the outskirts of the market district."
