Alexis went immediately to her office and gathered her stuff. With a heavy, tightened heart, she ran back towards the elevator.
When it opened, Carl's blank face met her and it intensified the pain she felt inside. Not wanting to spend more minutes with him, she turned back and ran towards the stairs.
She was panting when she arrived on the ground floor, her head started throbbing. Holding on to the railing, she took a deep breath and calmed herself.
After inhaling some air, she took the last step and lifted her gaze. She was stunned to see Carl looking intently at her.
She glared at him and hastened her steps to pass him. However, he blocked her way, reminding her of the past which made her feel bad.
"How did you meet her?" She heard Carl's cold question but she ignored it and walked towards the other side.
However, he blocked it again and so she stopped.
"I'm talking to you!" His voice became stern but she made no response, feeling the throbbing of her head become a pounding.
"Alexis Carter, you are still indebted to me. Do you want to go to prison?" He was angry. But she was angry as well! She met his angered eyes.
"I met her at the party last night, drafted the design she wanted, made the layout the whole night, and gave it to her at the airport before her flight at six this morning. Are you happy now that you're seeing how I suffer?"
An unwelcome tear fell from her eyes and she quickly wiped it away as she turned from him and walked to pass by him.
But he blocked it again. "Why didn't you tell me?"
The question made her chuckle sardonically. "You never made me," she looked soberly at him. "That's the problem with you. You never wanted to hear my explanation. You always want your demands to be followed. I'm not a machine! I have a life too!"
She paused and swallowed the lump that was forming in her throat. "I got tired too..."
Tears fall from her eyes and she looked away, trying to compose herself. She hated confrontations like this because her heart was so vulnerable, making her always cry.
Seeing her, Carl's heart was clutched. He made no response and looked away. He really can't stand to watch a woman cry.
"Are you happy? Seeing me suffer like this?" Alexis can't stop herself. It was started and so why not finish it?
Carl frowned and looked at her.
Alexis chuckled wryly and shook her head. "Why did I even ask? You must be contented now that you knew how miserable my life is." Pain and anger were revealed in her eyes. "Perhaps you will be happier if I will tell you that your wish came true. Ever since you cursed me, my life became terrible..." she paused. "Just as how you wanted it." She looked down and wiped her tears.
Carl was confused. What was she talking about?
Alexis shook her head and smiled bitterly. "You only wanted to make me suffer just like before. I am really stupid to hope that somehow you will change," she spoke lowly with her gaze turned away.
"What are you talking about?" he asked with a huge frown.
Alexis met his gaze and gave him an unbelieving look. She shook her head slowly then took some quick steps and Carl was unable to block her way this time.
It was then that she noticed nosy people looking at them with great interest, Sherry was holding her phone, obviously recording the scene. She painfully gasped in unbelief and her pace was slowed. These people...
