Just after they both settled down, the waiter came and took their orders politely.
Alexis observed the interior design of the restaurant after the waiter left.
She found it unique and fancy. "I had never seen a black and gold blending designed so elegant as they did it here," she voiced out her mind. "Now I'm getting interested in who's their architect," she added while she continued to scan the hall.
Carl nodded in agreement and also looked around. The place looks rich indeed. However, he found it too luxurious for common people. He's sure that all the customers coming in were in the high class of society. "It's too elegant that it's only for the rich," he commented.
"I was about to say that," Alexis glanced at him with a beam. "But black and gold is still a nice match. I'll try it sometime."
Carl gave the woman across him a careful look. Today, no shade of gloominess tinted her countenance.
She was warmer and the way she was treating him was pulling the strings that had long bound his heart.
Alexis who was drinking some water and looking outside the window didn't notice the meaningful stare from the man. "The architecture here is also good as Chicago, isn't it?" she asked after she placed down the glass.
"Yeah," Carl replied without much thought as he retreated his gaze and looked outside.
"Why architecture?" he asked after Alexis nodded and looked again outside, having her hand holding her chin.
"Why I took architecture?" she looked at him.
"Yes," he replied and took a sip of water from his glass.
"It was the course that was most recommended to me before. And Mom encouraged me in it because of the salary. She said it will be worth it," Alexis answered softly.
Carl nodded. "You didn't regret it now? You know the work is quite stressful."
Alexis smiled slightly. "No, I had learned to love it. Though it's hard, the end of every project is a joyful fulfillment. When you see it come to life, all will become worth it."
Carl nodded again and his lips twitched.
"What about you? Why engineering?" Alexis asked, her voice becoming lively.
He met her gaze and he cannot decline the interest emanating from her eyes. "I love building things, ever since I was a kid," he admitted.
Alexis nodded and was about to say something when the waiter arrived with their food.
After all was set on their table and the waiter left, Alexis looked at him.
With some hesitation in her voice, she asked, "Can we say grace first?"
Carl's lips formed into a small smile. "I was about to say that."
Alexis smiled as well. "Alright. I volunteer."
Placing her hands on the table, she closed her eyes and bowed her head. "Almighty God, thank you for your guidance during our business meeting a while ago, thank you for this moment and this food. Bless it Lord that it will give us nourishment. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Alexis smiled when she saw Carl's hands placed just inches away from hers. She was so grateful that finally her prayer was answered. Seeing him pray with her filled her with so much joy.
Carl noticed her delight and felt a little uncomfortable. Narrowing his eyes, he asked, "What's your happiness all about?"
Alexis looked at him. She tried to make her countenance normal, trying to hide what she felt but he still noticed.
