Seeing his indifferent frown, Alexis concluded that she bothered him enough.
"Thank you for everything today," she looked at him and then braced herself to endure the pain she may feel in walking alone.
She was about to open the door when he spoke.
"Don't go to work limping tomorrow. You can work at your home."
"Yes, Sir. Thanks," she glanced at him and twitched her hips before opening the door. She took a silent deep breath and stepped down.
As soon as she closed the door, the car moved speedily away, making her nearly fall if not for the post of the street light which she quickly grasped.
A melancholic emotion swelled in her.
He didn't care.
And if only she had a loving boyfriend, she would not suffer alone, as always.
Suppressing everything inside, she limped her way towards the apartment's gate, making the walls her support.
As soon as she entered, the stingy smell of liquor and the noise of inebriated men greeted her. She became nervous. Though this was not new for her, she feared they would take advantage of her injured ankle.
She whispered a prayer of protection before braving herself to pass through them for there was no other way.
"Oh, our nerdy neighbor arrived!" One of the drunk men jeered.
"Hey, she's sexy today," another spoke with a perverted grin.
It made her tremble.
This was one of the reasons why she didn't want to dress up in fitted, more revealing clothes as she was wearing.
She tried to make her steps faster, holding on to the wall of the other side of the hallway. She was near the stairs that led to her room when one of the men stood and walked towards her.
"Don't come near or else I'll call 911!" she shouted as she fumbled for her phone in her bag.
"You won't be able to make the call," the man spoke in his squiffed voice.
"Yes I can," she replied courageously as she pulled up her phone and dialed 911. "Hello..."
"Stop!" the man hissed and waved her off, eyeing her before going back to his seat.
She was relieved, canceled the call then hurriedly stepped up the stairs, enduring the intense pain in her ankle.
As soon as she closed the door of her room, her feet collapsed and she trembled.
She felt terrible. Everything was so hard for her. "Lord, send him now, please send the one for me. I need him. I don't want to be alone anymore..."
Tears fell from her eyes and she cried bitterly until her strength was lost.
The next day, she stayed at home and did her work there as Carl had instructed.
Her sprain was healed the following day so she went to EDA.
Sherry gave her a scowl when she clocked in which she ignored, thinking that the woman doesn't like her ever since she first entered the company.
She proceeded to the company's cafe and as usual made coffee for her colleagues on their floor.
Everyone she passed gave her a look that she could not determine. She wondered what was wrong. She checked her face and her attire but everything was neat, though she had worn her old office clothes again.
She entered their office with her mind wandering as she distributed the coffee.
She was passing out the coffee to Pauleen when the frowning woman pushed the cup toward her. "I don't want your coffee anymore!" she spat with a glare.
