"I think that he doesn't like me anymore," Jooyeon whispered towards Seungmin who sat on his bed beside him. The room was bright, almost blinding with its whiteness as if the person who had painted these walls didn't think twice about the future resident of the room. The doctor Jooyeon was talking about had just exited the room with a sour grimace all over his face that he has been giving Jooyeon for a few weeks already. At first, Jooyeon thought that he was in a bad mood or that he had lost his favourite toy, but apparently, he was mad with him. "I'm a bad patient. No matter how hard I try on the examinations, the results aren't that good."
Seungmin didn't reply, he just nodded his head, which Jooyeon expected. Seungmin didn't talk a lot, he was a rather quiet boy, and very rarely talked so loudly around anyone.
"He used to like me." Jooyeon went on, lying in his little bed and sighing loud as the snow-white light shone straight into his eyes. "Now, he hates me." He put his hand up to cover his eyes as the tears suddenly welled up in his eyes, and it wasn't because of the damn doctor but the lights. He wouldn't cry because of him. He despised him as well.
He really tried hard on every test, he did everything he could to make sure he did well, but nothing helped. He didn't complain about any connected cables or anything stuck in his skin (and these were the things he was the most afraid of), he didn't even wiggle around in the bed—he stayed still, bit his lower lip and hoped for the best, yet again, the results were bad and the doctor's facial expressions were even worse.
Seungmin was the only one who wasn't really affected by the fact that he was a bad patient even when on the contrary Seungmin could be named one of the best patients in the world. He still treated Jooyeon the same, even when everyone around looked at him with their eyebrows narrowed that they almost looked like a monobrow.
"They stare at me as if I were to hit them." Jooyeon rolled his eyes and then body so that now he was facing his friend. Seungmin had his lips pressed into a thin line and his hands clasped on top of his thin belly. "And you know how it is to be hit by me."
"I know." He replied to Jooyeon, a rarely seen and heard sighting. "The bruise is still here."
When they first met they didn't get along the best. Let's say they liked to argue a lot, fighting over toys or stolen sweets and one time Jooyeon even hit Seungmin on the arm which he quickly regretted, noticing the tears dripping down his chin, but then they talked for a long time and realised that they shouldn't have been like that towards each other. They made friends and basically spent most of their free time together.
They would help each other when needed. Jooyeon would usually tap Seungmin between the shoulder blades whenever he coughed for too long and Seungmin would carry Jooyeon whenever he fainted so that the doctors wouldn't see him like that. The plan failed about two times so far and each time Jooyeon was sent to the doctor Younghyun whom he disliked this much. And Seungmin? He usually hid in his room feeling bad for his friend, because he would never ever want him to meet that man on his own. And additionally not because of his own clumsiness.
They would also spend time sneaking into each other's room whenever they knew the other one was going to be alone the whole night, meaning no Sister would invade him nor would he have any night examination.
At first when coming to the hospital Seungmin was very happy—it simply meant that he didn't have to go to school for some time, but to his misfortune, he had to participate in various tests almost everyday—he found that annoying, but he couldn't do anything about them. At least his results seemed to be promising almost every time. He could say that he graduated from being an E/D student to a solid C/B- one, yet it wasn't something he could say about Jooyeon.
