Realizations

Chapter 17

Excitement and nervous feelings come rushing into me as I rejoin the land of the living as I realize what day it is. Excitement because today is the championship game and if we win we will have back to back perfect seasons and I am going to propose to Lexa at the victory party tonight. Nervous because today is the championship game and a good majority of the pressure to have back to back perfect seasons lands on my shoulders and I'm planning to propose to Lexa tonight at the victory party. I take a deep breath, trying to calm some of my nerves as I stretch but find I can barely because Lexa has her arm wrapped around me and her head on my chest still fast asleep.

I glance over at my clock to see it's six in the morning, the time I normally get up and go on my run and have a quick workout with the guys. Before I try to detangle myself from Lexa and grab my boxers from the floor, I stop and decide against that since I don't want to deal with an angry Lexa. I text the guys and let them know I won't be able to make it this morning but I will join them later today since all the guys on the football team were dismissed from all classes today to prep for the big game tonight. Instead I grab my tablet and go over footage and review plays to prepare for tonight.

"Morning" I hear from my right. I look down and see that Lexa has woken up. "Morning" I reply giving her a quick kiss, "What time do you have to leave?" "My first class is at eight thirty, so an hour" Lexa says. "You wanna go to that café you like and grab breakfast" I ask placing my tablet on my desk. "Or we could just have breakfast here" Lexa says. "There's hardly any food" I say as Lexa gives me a look, "Oh. Oh, that kind of breakfast." "Yeah" Lexa says, "Besides Clove always stops at that café on our way to class so I can just pick up something then." "I uh..." I say, "The guys are gonna be here shortly."

"Then we better make it fast" Lexa says getting out of bed and walking to the bathroom. This woman is going to be the death of me. Lexa stops and turns around, "You coming?" I get out of bed and follow Lexa into the bathroom. After several rounds, we actually take a shower. I climb out wrapping a towel around my waist and walk into my room as the door opens and everyone walks in. "Now I get why you ditched us this morning" Enzo says smirking. "Shut up man" I say grabbing some clothes. "You nervous for tonight" Pedro asks. "Yes and yes" I say slipping on my boxers. "Relax, we got something that the other team doesn't have" Pedro says. "What" I ask.

"You" Pedro says. "And you have nothing to worry about, she is going to say yes" Clove says giving me a soft smile, "That girl is crazy about you. Speaking of, let me see the ring." Lincoln walks over to his dresser and pulls out the box. I show Clove the ring before putting it in my bag as Lexa opens the door and peaks her head out. "Hey guys" Lexa says smiling, "Can you grab me some clothes and your away jersey Ry?" "Yeah" I say grabbing those items and handing them to her. Once Lexa closes the door I turn back to everyone and whisper, "You know the plan right?" They respond with a nod, thumbs up, or a "yeah".

Lexa exits the bathroom dressed and grabs her bag giving me a kiss, "See you at the game, bye babe." "Have fun, bye Lex" I say. Clove says goodbye to Pedro before they head to class. "We should probably get going too" Kobe says. We stop at the cafeteria to grab a quick bite before heading to the field for a final practice before the game tonight. After an extra long and hard practice, we head back to our dorms to get a quick shower before grabbing lunch. Then we head back to the locker room to go over the plays before tonight and review some footage before we are released until the game.

We go our separate ways to meet our family that drove in for the game. I meet mom and Cole at the hotel room they got down the street from the campus. Half an hour later Rodrik, Bianca, Raven, and Romeo arrive. We talk for a bit before I have to head back to warm up before the game. I meet up with the rest of the guys by the entrance to the hallway that leads to the locker room. I see the other team heading to their designated locker room and the cheerleaders stretching and talking with each other.

"I can't believe that after tonight not only will my boy here be a legend with two back to back perfect seasons but also be an engaged man" Kobe says. "Who would have thought Quill would be the first of us to be engaged" Adonis says. "Guys, she hasn't even said yes yet" I say. "All I'm saying is that I better be the best man" Pedro says. "That title goes to as you said the best man which we all know is me" Enzo says. "Jeez" I say, "You're already fighting over a title that isn't even set in stone yet?" "Dude I'm telling you, she is going to say yes" Lincoln says, "She's been waiting for you to pop the question, just like she was waiting for you to ask her to be your girlfriend."

"Whatever you say dude" I say as we enter the locker room. "Lincoln does have a point" Pedro says. "I get that you guys are excited and trying to hype me up" I say, "But can we focus on the game and then you can hype me up about the proposal." "To making history tonight" Pedro says holding his fist in the middle of us. "To making history" we say fist bumping.
