You have got to be kidding me. Why must they run into me now of all times? "Can you guys just not do this right now" I ask. "Well if someone just told the truth, we wouldn't have to interject and do it ourselves" one of the girls says. "So are you going to or do we have to tranny" the guy from early asks. I remain silent and avoid looking at Lexa. "I guess we will have to" the other guy says, "New girl, word of advice, I wouldn't believe anything this freak says. Her actual name is Rika Quill." They then all leave and it's just me and Lexa.
I have to get out of here, I can't deal with anymore rejection and mocking. I stand up and quickly make my way towards the door. "What are-where are you-hey wait" Lexa says quickly chasing after me and grabbing my arm, "Ryker stop." I stop and look over my shoulder at her in shock since she is the first person outside of my family to accept me, well as of right now. "Can we just talk...please" Lexa asks. "I um...I uh...yes..." I reply uncertainly. "Ryker" the barista calls out. "We can talk here or we can walk and talk, up to you" Lexa says.
"Okay" I say. I go get my drink then walk to the door and hold it open for Lexa. "Thanks" Lexa says exiting with me right behind her. We begin to walk down the street for a few seconds in silence before Lexa breaks it, "So what was-" "Rika" Kaitlyn says standing up from a table off to the side. I narrow my eyes at her, "What do you want?" "I just want to talk" Kaitlyn says, "I also need to apologize and clarify some things." "Seriously, you want to talk now" I ask annoyed, "You have had months too...I mean I've even tried to talk to you for months but you went out of your way to avoid me or just flat out ignored me."
"And I told you I needed time" Kaitlyn says defending herself. "And you made it perfectly clear where you stand" I say. "It has killed me these last several months not talking to you while I processed everything but I accept you" Kaitlyn says, "...And I miss my best friend." I scoff at this, "If you truly did, you wouldn't be calling me that or hanging out with them." "It's complicated" Kaitlyn says, "I do accept you but I can't let them know that." "It doesn't sound that complicated to me" Lexa says, "You don't accept him, plain as that." "No one asked you" Kaitlyn says sounding slightly angry before looking her up and down narrowing her eyes, "Who's this bitch?"
Wait, is Kaitlyn...jealous? "The upgrade" Lexa replies grabbing my arm and holding it. "Stay out of this" Kaitlyn says sounding angry again, "This is between me and Rika downgrade." Am I missing something here? "If you can't even say my name then we are done here" I say hoping to break up the possible fight that might break out between Lexa and Kaitlyn, "I have nothing to say to you." "Rika" Kaitlyn says. "Whatever" I say turning and walking off with Lexa. "Well now you definitely have to tell me everything" Lexa says. I look down at Lexa and smile, "You're something else."
I start with the first time I met Kaitlyn and go all the way to today where coach told me about the scholarship causing me to go on a walk and meet her. "Oh wow" Lexa says, "That's quite a story." "Yeah..." I say. "For the record I think those kids are jerks for bullying you for being your true self, especially Kaitlyn, some best friend she is" Lexa says, "And I also think you should accept that scholarship so that we will see each other everyday and you will get away from all those jerks, but mainly for just the first reason." "So you're going to Mountain View High next year" I ask.
"Yeah" Lexa replies, "It's actually only a couple minutes from my house. And it would be nice to already know someone else going there." "I see what you're doing" I say. "Is it working" Lexa asks. "I'll think about it" I reply, "Hey if you're interested I have my school's state semi game coming up in a few days, you should come, if you want to that is." "Mm" Lexa says, "I don't know, I'll have to think about it." "Fair enough" I say, "Besides, my mom, brother, and sister-in-law will all be dying to meet you after I tell them about you." "Is that so" Lexa asks. "Yeah" I say, "Especially mom and Bianca won't stop bugging me to meet you."
"Tell you what" Lexa says as we stop in front of her front door, "I will go to your game only if you accept that scholarship." "You drive a hard bargain but..." I say mulling over it for a few seconds, "Deal. I'll tell my coach that I will accept the scholarship." "Great then I will see you at your game" Lexa says pulling out her phone, "Give me your number so that I know where to go and to make sure you won't back out of our deal." I take her phone and give her mine. We exchange numbers before she leans in kissing my cheek. I stand there in shock as my face grows red. She glances over her shoulder at me giggling and smiles before she enters her house. I then walk home with a skip in my step and smile on my face.
