"How much meat did you get? Jesus" Layla said leaning against her bike at the train tracks where the group decided to meet while the boys went to the store.
"Enough" Steve shrugged
As the older teens were getting everything ready to leave for the junkyard they heard Dustin's walkie say "Steve Harrington?"
"Lets go!" Steve said closing his trunk again and turning to start the walk on the train tracks to the junkyard. As everyone was walking Layla was listing to 'Layla's Top Mix' tape on her Walkman, her tape consisted of queen, journey, poison, and her all time favorite song 'everybody wants to rule the world' by tears for fears. (A.N. we are going to act like this song came out in 1984 instead of 1985) After a while of walking and listening to music Layla decided to join the boys conversation and pause her music, taking her headphones off.
"It's not about the hair man, you just gotta act like you don't care" Steve said to the younger boy
"Huh? What are we talking about?" Layla asked confused as to when you should act like you don't care and why hair was a part of the conversation.
"Dustin has a crush and needs advice" He responded. Layla hummed in understanding sort of now.
"So you act like you don't care... even if you do?" Dustin asked the older male
"Yeah it drives em nuts"
"Then what?"
"You wait till you feel it"
"Feel what?"
"It's like before its gonna storm. You can't see it but you can feel it like this uh..." Steve started
"Electricity?" Layla finished
"Yeah. Thanks" Layla nodded back
"Oh so like the electromagnetic field when the clouds in the atmosphere-" Layla laughed while Steve cut Dustin off saying
"No, no like a... a sexual electricity"
"Steve! He's a child!" Layla said shocked
"You feel that then you make your move" Steve continued
"So that's when you kiss her?" Dustin asked
"No Dustin. Again I say child" Steve ignored Layla saying "No slow down Romeo. Okay some girls yeah, they want you to be aggressive, strong, hot and heavy like a... I don't know like a lion. But other girls you gotta be stealthy like a... like a ninja"
"This is bad advice. Don't listen Dustin" Layla said rolling her eyes
"What type are you Layla?" Dustin asked
"Neither because it's not as simply and liking one thing or the other. Just be yourself Dustin, any girl would be lucky to be with you. Plus your still a kid, you've got plenty of time to find love"
Dustin looked confused until Steve said "Layla's... Layla's a special between"
"What? I just said-" Dustin cut Layla off saying "I knew Layla was gonna be complicated, or as you say special"
"Jesus. You guys don't know how to listen to good advice" Layla said walking ahead and putting her headphone back on, but she made sure not to press play since she was curious what other bad advice Steve would give the poor kid.
"Remind me, why aren't you two together?"
"Because I was with Nancy. And I don't now she's seen me at my worst, like rock bottom, no coming back from that"
"So, since your ego is hurt you're gonna pass on the best girl in Hawkins?"
"What?" Steve asked
"Come on Steve, think. There's a reason guys ask her out. She's awesome! Like she drives a motorcycle, she's a badass, she's got a don't give a fuck attitude, somehow she's still a nerd, and the obvious, she hot, pretty, beautiful whichever"
"You're a kid, how do you even know all this?"
"Because everyone in the party has or had a thing for her" Dustin said with a shrug
"But she's so much older"
"We weren't act on it"
"Still!"
"Okay. Jealous much" Dustin teased the older boy
"What?!"
Layla laughed to herself listening to the conversation. Once she was done listening to them talk she played her music hearing the intro of 'Everybody Wants to Rule The World' and immediately start dancing along as she walked down the tracks. It was unknown to her that the boys were watching her and still talking about her.
"See? I told you" Dustin said to Steve but the older boy couldn't take his eyes away from her. He couldn't help but wonder what she could be listening to.
After even more walking the three had arrived at the junkyard where Layla dumped the rest of the meat from her bucket in a pile, the boys follow soon after doing the same with the meat in their buckets. Layla was on her way to garb some sheets of metal from around the place when she hear Lucas yell "I said medium-well"
"Sinclair? Nice of you to join us" Layla responded as Lucas and the red haired girl biked down the hill to meet with everyone. Lucas and Dustin left to talk while the red haired girl walked towards Layla.
"Max" she said extending her hand to Layla
"Layla. You new to town or somethin?"
"Yeah. moved here from California"
"You're not related to Billy are you?" Layla asked skeptically
"He's my step-brother. Don't worry we're polar opposites, I take it you've had the displeasure of meeting him?"
"I have. It's good to hear you opposite him. We should probably help Steve before he snaps" Layla laughed with the young girl.
The girls started helping Steve move different pieces of metal and tired to the bus to protect them inside. There was a sudden loud crash by the young boys, Layla and Max turned their heads to see Steve arguing with the boys behind the car. As it was getting dark the bus had been finished being reinforced with scrap metal and tires around the top exit with a ladder inside to the exit. Everyone went inside sitting down with Lucas and his binoculars on top to be a lookout for Dart.
"So... you really fight one of these things before?" Max asked the older teens
Steve nodded while Layla said "Got the scares to prove it"
"And you're like 100% it wasn't a bear? Can I see those scars?"
"If you don't believe us why are you here?" Dustin snapped
"Dustin!" Layla exclaimed
"Geez, someone's cranky. Past your bed time?" Max said climbing up the ladder to join Lucas
"Nice. Just show her you don't care" Steve said
"I don't" Dustin responded. Steve winked at the curly haired boy. "Why are winking Steve? Stop" Dusting said
Layla got bored of the bickering and pulled her butterfly knife out of her bag to mess with and do tricks.
"Jesus. How many weapons do you have?" Steve asked
"With me now? Gun, this, pocket knife, and hunting knife... I think that's it with me"
"Badass" Dustin said
