Layla and Steve was over at Steve's house for some studying, but mostly a movie night with some snacks. Neither Layla or Steve were very good at school. The two were talking for almost 30 minutes now when Steve brought up a girl in conversation, Nancy Wheeler, a girl a year below them. Layla couldn't help but feel a small ping in her chest at the mention of Nancy. Layla ignored it, but she stayed quiet through most of the conversation about Nancy, hoping Steve wouldn't notice the difference in her behavior. But Steve noticed, he always noticed.
"Hey, you ok?" He asked
"Yeah, of course I'm ok. Why?"
"You just seem odd, and... quiet"
"I'm ok, really. But its late, I should probably head home now" with Layla's' statement Steve looked at his watch noticing it was only 10pm. Layla often stayed away from home at night. Something was off with her tonight and Steve couldn't tell what caused it.
"Uh, yeah, ok. I'll see you tomorrow"
"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow" Layla responded
Layla then grabbed her bag and walked out to her all black Kawasaki GPZ900R and rode off back home to the "trailer in the middle of nowhere" as she called it.
Layla's' Bike:Layla came home to Jim passed out drunk on the couch, beer cans all over, cigarettes, and some pills around as well. Just because she was 17 now doesn't mean it got any easier for her to see her dad at home like this. She cleaned up all the beer cans, put the pills in its container and on the shelf were belonged, put he cigarettes away with its lighter. After the mess was cleaned she pulled a blanket over her sleeping father and left for her room.
Layla's room was plain, not much decorated her room, she had basic furniture, a bed and a small dresser. She has a couple notebooks and books on her dresser but it was mostly clear of anything, a few posters hung on the wall of Queen, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, and Fleetwood Mac. Overall she had a plain room, she didn't need much in life, as long as she had her bike, her music, and her beloved pocket knife she was happy.
After a bit of looking at her posters and admiring them Layla changed into some Pj's and was off to bed.
She woke p the next morning to find her father still fast asleep on the couch, Layla started to make some coffee for the two. While the coffee was brewing she went and got dressed, she also made sure to steal an old pack of Jim's cigarettes, packing it in her bag along with her lighter. She stepped out of her room and poured the coffee into two mugs for the two Hoppers, setting Jim's on the table next to him to make sure he would see it when he awoke, Layla sat down and finished her cup and put it in the sink. After grabbing her bag Layla was off to school.
After parking in the schools lot she was met with a red BMW parking next to her.
"Fancy seeing you here Harrington, and... on time!" Layla said looking at the time on her watch.
"Could say he same things about you Hopper"
"How many times do I have to ask you not to call me Hopper?"
"Right. Well LAYLA, you in for the party tonight?"
"Hmm... depends. Will there be beer?" Layla asked
"Duh"
"Then I'm in" Layla said walking off towards the school. The school day went on as normal until Tommy and Carol started making fun of Jonathan and his missing brother Will. Layla didn't want to be apart of the conversation so she left for class while the teens laughed.
After school Layla went home to get some of her homework done before going out that night. After she finished her work she took a shower and got ready, after she finished getting ready her dad still wasn't home so she left him a note before going to Steve's place that said "Staying at Steve's -L"
Layla had arrived just after Tommy and Carol had gotten there. It was about 8pm when Nancy Wheeler and surprisingly Barbra Holland had come to join the party. Steve had decided to show off infant of his new girlfriend but shot gunning a beer.
"Was that supposed to impress me?" Nancy asked
"You're not?" Steve questioned
Nancy laughed again saying "You are such a clique"
"No, you're the clique, what with your band practice and grades"
"I am so not in band"
"Okay... then uh... show us how its done" Steve said handing a beer and knife to Nancy
"Layla, join me?" Nancy asked
"Sure. Why not?" Layla said standing up, grabbing a beer and her pocket knife. She stabbed a hole into the can waiting for Nancy to do the same. As Steve was telling Nancy how to do it she interrupted him saying "I got it"
"Yeah she's smart ya douche. Even Layla figured it out" Tommy laughed
"Not my first rodeo Tommy Boy" Layla smirked
"Should we race?" Nancy asked
"If you want to, sure"
Steve, Tommy and Carol started counting down from 3. Both girls started drinking once they hit 1, Layla finished first a few seconds before Nancy finished her beer. Soon after finished Nancy offered Barb a try who declined. Everyone but Layla started pushing barb to try, eventually she gave in. After barb stood up with a beer in one hand and knife in the other, she went to poke a hole in the can but missed and cut her hand. Nancy had run to help barb who snapped at her and asked for a bathroom to clean the cut and left.
Carol had been standing off to the edge of the pool smoking a cigarette when Tommy pushed her in the pool, jumping in soon after her. Steve also pushed Nancy in the pool, he turned around to see Layla laying on a pool chair smoking a cigarette looking peaceful. He walked over to her and stood next to her silently.
Layla looked over at Steve and said "What can I do for ya?"
Instead of responding Steve picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder and started walking towards the pool, when Layla realized what he was doing it was too late to protest when Steve jumped in the pool still holding Layla.
Once she swam above the water she yelled "What the hell Steve?" He just laughed at her and Layla couldn't help but laugh swell. She also couldn't help but splash him.
"All right I deserve That" Steve said smiling.
