Chapter 12 - Suspicion

Amber's POV

I went back to my room once Tyler left. I was scrolling through some posts on Instagram. Sometimes I wish I was as pretty as them...

No, Tyler said I was good enough for him. For him.

I was okay with how I looked.

Suddenly, I got a knock on the door. It was Ashley. She looked pale.

[Me] Ash? Are you okay?

[Ashley] I kissed Chad.

[Me] OMG tell me about it

Then she explained how Chad climbed her window to confess his feelings to her and how he kissed her and said he wouldn't disturb her anymore.

[Me] That's amazing! You've had a crush on Chad for who knows how long?

[Ash] Two weeks and three days

[Me] OMG you're - I'm - he's - OMG! I'm so happy for you. You guys should date.

[Ash] I shouldn't have turned around. Now he thinks he's bad for making the attempt.

[Me] You need to tell him! Call him, like right now.

[Ash] Okay whatever

She left my room and I sat on my bed. Suddenly the door opened. It was Ashley again.

[Ash] The test results are in. Investigator Bryce and Amelia are here.

I rushed downstairs with Ashley to see Investigator Bryce and Amelia.

Amelia got up and threw her arms around me.

[Amelia] How are you doing kiddo?

It was so weird. Amelia had never acted that way before. But I gave in because she probably had some good news.

[Me] Doing good Amelia.

[John B.] We have some amazing yet, I don't know, maybe sad news for you

[Me] Okay

I stared at Ashley, giving me this stern look and folding her arms. I shrugged and took the paper folder John Bryce gave to me. I tore it open and a few papers were inside.

I removed the first one; it was me and Ashley. The results said it was a 0% match. Wait, then how is it that the previous ones we did were a 100% match? I was clearly confused.

Ashley looked at my face, and then knew something was wrong. She walked up to me. When she saw it, she looked pale and grabbed it from my hands.

[Ash] *muttering* No no no it can't be.

Then she threw the paper in the air and rushed upstairs. I wondered what was up with her. I looked at Mr. Bryce. I felt like something was wrong.

[John B] She must be trying to process it. She obviously wanted to be sisters with you.

[Me] Yeah

I took out the rest. The test between me and Ashley's parents also said 0% and it shocked me.

[Me] So what's the good news in this

[Amelia] Well, we got the results earlier yesterday, so we used the rest of the day to look for your parents. We -

[Me] Yeah?

[John B] We found them.

[Me] Wait what? Are you sure?

[John B] Yes. We saw a striking resemblance between you and my boss lady's husband. I never really knew it until now.

[Me] Where is she? I need to see her myself
