Finally, I make it through the last class. I zip my bag and head for the door. As I leave a strong person pushes pass me and I stumble on the floor.
'Come on? Are you serious?' I wipe my clothes as it now has dust from floor and at the corner of my eye I see a hand reaching out. I look to see who this person is.
'Don't you have eyes?' I shouted.
'Fortunately, I do.' she smiles. ' I'm Sarah, I'm new and I'm just really lost.
'But it's the last period, how can you possibly be lost?' I say.
Confused, she checks her timetable and gasps.
'Oh! I'm really sorry, I'm so dumb. I thought we still have one more class.'
'No, don't apologise, same here I'm new but I keep track. I'm Carrie.'
'Nice to meet you Carrie, and thank you. Okay, I have to go, see you around then.' She runs very fast to the nearest exit. Where I was just about to go.
Hmm... weird. I guess i made a new friend, happy as i am i walk away.
3 hours has passed and I take out my phone and call my mom, no answer. She must be busy again, she never has time for her children. I call our nanny to check my little sister, she answers. Finally after several tries.
'Hey, how are you Susie, I just want to know if is Becca is okay? Uh um, alright. Yeah, she forgot me, again. I'm coming home now. Don't worry. Bye.'
I text my mom, but then delete it since she won't come. I imagine being at her position and continuously having to check my phone because of the calls and texts and so I close my phone not bothering anymore.
'Hey, it's late, why aren't you going home?'
Shocked to hear someone listening to my conversation earlier, I turn around and surprised to see the guy that followed me.
'Dan, right?'
'Daniel Zane Pier, yes. My friends call me Dan.' He smiles. Looking out, like me - at the parking.
'So Dan, why are you always...' Unable to pin point how he is, he responds-
'Around?'
'Yeah, you appear in the most unexpected time ever.' I look away, trying to figure out how to go home. Kicking the tip of my shoes on the ground.
'I'm just like that. Anyways, aren't you going home? It's late' he points to the sky. The yellow - orange sunset fading into the night blue sky. Cumulus clouds surrounding it, fading as the day goes.
But he is sweet, unlike other guys. They just talk to you for your number or something, but he is different. I don't know If it's the smile or whatever but, to be honest, he is charming.
'My mom was supposed to pick me up but I guess she forgot. And you? Aren't you going home?' Unafraid to tell him the truth even though I imagine to just met him.
'Uh, I'm about to, but I saw you waiting here, you need a ride?
Woah wrong turn there buddy. This guy is insane. With one coversation earlier, does he really think that I'll go with him? Let him take me home? And to think if my mom sees him, she'll go balistic, hell no! He might be cute with that short dark brown quiff and hazel eyes and a smile that can drown any girl. And insane to think, this guy is talking to a short girl with shoulder length black hair and ripped skinny jeans. Me!
I could feel my face stiffen when he said those words. But he doesn't react. Does he usually do this to other girls? It makes me wonder.
'Uh, no thanks, I'm just gonna walk' i fast paced walk and walk and walk to avoid the awkwardness until I could no longer be in the school grounds. I didn't look back. I continue to walk but then, feeling tired, I rest for a minute when a car honked at me that alarm me.
'Hey Carrie, Why don't I take you home?' San appears in his
Stunned. My jaw drops.
' Don't worry. I know you don't want to walk another, say... 5 km or do you?' He says smiling.
'I knew it, you do know where I live! Now that I know that you know where I live, I definitely won't go with you!' I cross my arms over my chest.
'Alright, I just asked people about you, cause you seemed lonely.' Lonely. Lonely is the word for me, that explains my life. He just said it, people know it.
Yes I am lonely, but guess what.... I don't care.
'You see?' I say, not surprised. Eventually people gossip this and I become he talk of the school. Again.
'Only because I want to know more about you, Come with me and I'll drive you home.'
He sits there, with a worried face. I eventually nod to that and head to the opposite side. I sit at the passenger seat but we didn't talk. I mean what could you expect. I'm sitting in this wonderful smelling car with a guy I barely know, and he's taking g me home. Just imagine the amount of curiosity I'm having right now. I feel awkward being in this situation, no parent to take me home and no taxi money and yet... here I sit, next to a good looking guy taking me home.
I couldn't help but ask myself why?
As we came closer to my house he slowed down, which eventually leads me to making conclusions.
'Wow, why are you slowing down, your not gonna hurt me are you?'
'No I'm not' he laughs and shakes his head. 'I slowed down because I just thought that you needed an apology for the things I said, about asking people about you and all. I uh, just wanted to say sorry. I didn't mean to make it really awkward between us.' Well you sure hell did.
'No need, And thanks for the ride.' Keeping that plastic, forced smile on my face.
'No problem, maybe we can do this again sometime and make it less awkward. Talk more, I guess?' My eyes popped with that request.
'Sure, will do it again.' I open the door and shut it then start walking.
'Oh, and just so you know I do have your number, I'll call you sometime.' He winks.
I laugh. 'Alright, bye.'
'Bye, see you tomorrow. ' He drove off, and I realise that I'm stuck in a position I don't know how to explain. Erasing the thought in my head I walk to the front door and unlock it. What an interesting day that was.
