This place is truly amazing. Never in a million years would I imagine I could see such a beautiful place. With all the troubles I have, I'm reminded that others have other problems too. I'll thank him forever. He's a good friend and a good person, unlike what I heard about his mother. They are so different. Too different to think they're even related.

I do wonder sometimes.
Why me?
Amongst all the girls at our school, he took time to talk to me. I mean, I'm just a girl trying to get through high school so that I leave everyone and live my life. And to think he still sticks with me. I was unsociable. I didn't care.
But he seemed to change all of that.
He changed me.
For the better.

"I bet that waters cold." He says.

"What?" Erasing the thoughts in my head.

"The lake. I bet that the waters really cold." He points to it.

"Ok?" I say confused. Wondering what could the reason for that change of subject.

"So.... what do you say?" He leans over with his eyebrows raised.

"Um. . . No." I shake my head. Knowing what he's thinking.

"C'mon It'll be fun." He grabs my hand and pulls me to the lake with the other pulling off his shoes - unbalanced.

"Dan stop. I- I can't." I push away but he's too strong. And me, being a little scared.

"Live a little Carrie!" My hands slip and I run away smiling. I look behind me and I see him running towards me.

"No, Dan. I'm serious." He catches up and we are face to face. Grabbing my arms he looks at me giggling.

"I'll tickle you. Don't make me."

"No. I won't." He let's go of my arms and so I cross them over my chest. He rests his hands at his side.

"Well you leave me no choice then." He then twist my body and tickling my sides. I couldn't breath of laughter eventually falling to the ground.

He stops. "Swim in the lake with me."

"No, no, no, I- I can't."

"Carrie Sitle, you can't swim!" I look at him, just standing there. He's dying of laughter. Amazed at how he took my secret.

I still remember my 7th birthday. Mom tried to make it a 'memorable' birthday so she took us to Dolphin Park Swimming Pool. Well, it didn't turn out quite as she expected. Long story short. I drowned. But I'm here now so...

"Look, I can't swim ok. Leave it."

"Nope, you are swimming with me!" He then lifts me up. My body over his shoulder, I try to resist but he's just too strong. I try to wiggle myself out but he jumps to the lake, I let out a scream. Then gasping for air, I spread my feet pretending it was stairs. I applied the pointers of swimming I got from my mom.

"Dan! I can't bre- I can't breat- " I look over at him and he's laughing like an idiot.

"I got you Carrie. I got you." He says. I look down at his hands and he has a tight grip of my waist.
Then there became an awkward silence.

"Don't ever do that again. Say you won't do that again! " I smack his face and water splashing all around.

"Ow! Ow! okay, I won't do it again!" He rests his hands.
