June, 1977

Huckleberry Hound was just coming home from another day of work. He drove his car all the way to the diner where he and his friends always loved to eat their supper, then headed inside to find that they were already there! Mr. Jinks, Hokey Wolf, Pixie and Dixie and Snagglepuss had already taken their place in line to be seated when the hound walked in through the front door.

"Howdy, fellers!" he greeted. "How's it going?"

"Great!" Hokey replied. "How was your shoot today, Huck?"

"It was real dandy!" Huck smiled. "I reckon this next commercial is gonna be a big hit!"

"What was the commercial for?" Snagglepuss wondered. "Another cereal ad...a promotion, even?"

"Nope, this one was for Pepsi!" Huck said, laughing. "And I don't even drink that much sody pop!"

That made the whole gang laugh. Then as the gang was seated at their table, Huck noticed that Mr. Jinks was quietly reading a brochure. The front cover said "Come to WonderWorld Park and Beach! It's a whole new world of fun and games!"

"What's that, Jinksey?" Huck asked.

"It's a brochure for an amusement park. Oh, and get this! There's a boardwalk resort there too! You fellas wanna check this place out?"

"Ooh! I do!" Pixie piped up.

"Me too!" Dixie added.

Jinks rolled his eyes. "I was asking Huck first, you meeces! Don't interrupt!"

Huck chuckled. "Sure! It sounds right peachy! Maybe we can all head on up there for a whole week!"

"Oh, a vacation!" Hokey beamed. "I'd love to go with you, Huck!"

"Me too!" Snag added. "A gentlemen's week out...sort of the way the ladies have their nights out...their own weekends, even!"

"Yeah! A whole week of no work, and no autograph hounds, and things like that," Hokey agreed.

The waitress took their orders, then as they waited for their food to arrive, they wanted to see what that park had to offer. Jinks opened the brochure and passed it around for them all to see, and their eyes lit up with joy. Even after their meals arrived, they were still looking at all the photos and chatting about what they'd love to do.

"Look at all the food they have there!" Pixie beamed.

"Gourmet hot dogs?!" Dixie gasped. "A candy store?! An ice cream shop on the pier? Oh boy, oh boy!"

"Oh! And they allow pets to come too!" Snag noticed.

"Oh, good!" Huck grinned. "Now I don't have to leave Pudgy and Mimi with a pet sitter. Even if Peter Potamus and Granny Sweet were very good sitters when I asked them before."

"Have your pets ever been on a trip?" Snag asked.

"Well, Pudgy has. He came with us to New York City when we did a big show there. But Mimi...she hasn't! So that means...this is her first trip!"

"Ohhh! I hope she enjoys herself as much as Pudgy did!"

As soon as Huck drove home later that day, he got out of his car with a brochure of his own. When he entered the house, he whistled for his two pets. "Pudgy! Mimi! I'm home!"

Pudgy, Huck's little puppy, and Mimi, his little kitten, came over to Huck for some hugs.

"I have a surprise for the two of you!" Huck told them.

He brought them to his room to start packing his suitcase. "You see, I got this brochure for WonderWorld Park and Beach. It's a boardwalk resort! So me and the gang talked about it, and we're all going there for a vacation. And that's not all! Pets are allowed! So that means you two are coming with us!"
