March, 1972
The sun shone over Hill Street Neighborhood one morning as Huckleberry Hound was still fast asleep. The light of the sun was shining down on him, and he yawned and opened his eyes. He then got out of bed, and opened the window. The sun seemed to be smiling today!
"Good morning, Huckleberry!"
"Good morning, Mr. Sun!" Huck grinned. Then he took off his nightcap, and put on a clean bow tie. "Oh, what a beautiful day!"
He then went to the mirror, combed his hair and put on a brand new top hat he just got. This one had a colorful feather in it. He looked at himself in the mirror and smiled.
"Say, I look pretty stylish in this new hat!" he said to himself, nodding. "Sorta like my ol' ringmaster hat, but better!"
Suddenly, he heard a knock at the door.
"Special delivery for Huckleberry Hound!"
"Oh, that must be Mr. Post!" the hound exclaimed. He went to the slide outside his bedroom and slid down to the front door. When he opened it, there stood Mr. Post, the mailman! They tipped their hats to each other.
"Morning, Mr. Post!"
"Good morning, Huck! I got this letter just for you!"
"Thank you very much!"
Huck went back inside, and looked at the letter. "YOU'RE INVITED!" it read on the front.
"Oh! It's an invitation!" he exclaimed as he opened the envelope. "Golly! I wonder what I've been invited to!" Then he unfolded the letter inside and began to read it.
"Dear Huckleberry,
You're cordially invited to the next town over for the Hill Street Music Festival! You will be participating in the music competition against seven other competitors! Each year, we try to see who Hill Street Neighborhood's biggest star is, and this year, we turned to you because your singing and dancing wows crowds of all ages! Enjoy the rides, games, food, and of course, the music! The festival begins tomorrow at ten o' clock in the morning, and the competition is on the third and final day of the festival! Three days of fun and excitement, three days of the finest foods, and most of all, three days of music! So come and join us for the best tunes you've ever heard!
Sincerely,
The Mayor.
P.S. Be sure to bring at least eight friends with you!"
Huck's eyes lit up with joy. "Ohhhhhh, goody goody gosh!!" he shouted. "This is so exciting! I've always wanted to participate in a music festival! I wonder if Hector would want to come! And maybe Grampy, Pixie, Dixie, Yogi, Boo-Boo, Jinksey, and I think I'll ask Daisy to come too!"
So, he ran out of his house, and down the street to go find his friends. He soon found his nephew Hector, and his grandfather, Grampy Hound walking through the park.
"Hi!" Huck said as he went up to them.
"Oh, howdy, grandson!" Grampy replied. "What's up?"
"Yeah, what's with the big smile, Uncle Huck?"
"Well, I've got very exciting news to share!" Huck replied. "But I wanna let Daisy in on it too! Speaking of which, where is she?"
That's when Daisy Crophopper came running down the block. "Here I am!" she shouted. "What's all the buzz about?"
"Well, you see..."
"Hiya, Huck!"
Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo came running over to the hound.
