October, 1988

It was only a few days until Halloween, and everyone in the Funtastic World was getting ready. The autumn weather was cool and crisp, with red, orange and yellow leaves drifting into huge piles on the ground, and the chilly breeze blowing gently. The weather was perfect for the holiday atmosphere, with pumpkins lining people's porches and walkways, and the sweet and spicy smell of apple cinnamon and pumpkin pie drifting from people's windows.

People were also going to the costume shop to pick out what they were going to be. There were cowboy outfits and pirate costumes, clown costumes and princess dresses, sailor uniforms, detective's trench coats, firefighter jackets, cheerleading uniforms, and even magician's outfits! But most of all, there were witch's hats, monster masks, and mummy wrap, perfect for spooky costumes!

Snagglepuss was in the costume shop picking out his costume. Now, Snag usually enjoyed Halloween, but he was often getting spooked rather than spooking his friends. For the past Halloween nights, Mr. Jinks had been scaring Snag with his constant scare pranks, and the lion didn't like it at all.

"For a lion, you sure are a coward!" the cat would say.

But Snag didn't like being called a "coward." But this year, Jinks didn't know what he was in for. It all started when Snag picked out his Halloween costume that day. He was going as a king. He found a nice red robe, and a bright golden crown, and to top it off, he found a gold scepter that he would hold in his hand.

"This is perfect!" he said to himself. "The best costume yet, even! Oh, I'm sure to win the prize for the fanciest costume now!"

The lion was very pleased when he bought the costume. When he left the shop, he started walking home with his king's costume, when he passed by the park. But then, from out of the bushes came Jinks wearing a monster mask, growling at him! Snag screamed and leapt backwards as Jinks removed the mask and laughed really hard.

"I told you you were a coward, Snag!" he chortled.

Snag was steamed. "Now look what you've done!!" he snapped. "You startled me badly! You know I can't stand your scare pranks! Especially on Halloween!! I'll show you what Halloween is all about! Just you wait and see! Watch, even!"

And he marched away. When he got to his house to drop off his costume, he was still fuming. In fact, he was furious. But he took some deep breaths to calm himself down. But soon, he had an idea!

"I think it's time I taught that Mr. Jinks a lesson!"

But that's when he heard the sound of feet stomping pretty fast. Sure enough, he saw two of his friends running down the block, chasing each other. It was Huckleberry Hound and Quick Draw McGraw! They were laughing and teasing each other as they played a game of tag, and throwing leaves at each other.

"I'm gonna get you, Huck!" Quick Draw chuckled.

"Oh, no you're not!" Huck chortled. "I'm faster than you!"

Snag knew he could always count on Huck to lend a helping hand. The blue hound lived next door from him, so he was the closest person he could meet up with. But most of all, they loved to spend time together the most, because they were best friends. Quick Draw was another friend that he could look up to, since he's a courageous horse. He's faced many outlaws in the Wild West, especially the Dalton Brothers. Most recently, he starred along with Huck in a movie where he assisted him in catching the Dalton Brothers, and saving the town of Two-Bit. He enjoyed it very much.

"Huck! Quick Draw!" the lion called. "Over here!"

Huck and Quick Draw came to a stop when they approached Snag. "Oh, howdy, Snag!" Quick Draw greeted. "Didn't see you around the block today!"
