You probably remember Yogi's All-Star Comedy Christmas Caper from 1982, but after looking at all the holiday specials Hanna-Barbera created, we never did get a good Halloween special featuring the Yogi Gang. Well, that's what I decided to create here! So here's my imagining of a 1983 Halloween special featuring Yogi, Huck and the rest of the gang! Enjoy!
October, 1983
It was the early evening of Halloween. Children were dressed in their costumes and roaming through the neighborhood, ready to trick or treat. There were so many cute and scary costumes, everything from ghosts, to vampires and ghouls and goblins, to cute black cats, angels and devils, pirates, spacemen and cowboys, even princesses in pretty dresses. The entire neighborhood was also decorated in bright lights, spooky decorations and on the lawns and porches sat jack-o-lanterns with their silly and scary faces all aglow in candlelight.
In the humble home of Huckleberry Hound, the blue canine in question was standing in front of a mirror, about to put on his own Halloween costume. He was deciding on whether he should be a witch, or a knight. "Hmmmm, I don't know if I should be a knight," he said to himself. "I've already been one too many times. I think I should be a witch." So he threw down his knight costume, and put on his black bow tie, a matching cape, and placed a witch's hat over his straw hat.
"Superb choice, Huck," a voice said from next to him. Huck turned his head to see Snagglepuss standing next to him, dressed as a wizard in a blue robe with a gold star pattern. "A witch makes a lovely contrast to a wizard...both are magical beings after all!"
Huck chuckled. "Yeah, and witches also love to laugh a lot, just like me! I just need to practice my cacklin'."
"That's easy, Huck!" Augie Doggie said, lifting up his costume. He was going as a classic bedsheet ghost. "You just gotta go...hehehehehe! Like that!"
Doggie Daddy, wearing a trenchcoat and fedora, chuckled. "Heheh, that's my boy who laughed like that!"
"Okay!" Huck called. "Here goes!" He took a deep breath, and let out a loud chuckle, rather than a high-pitched cackle.
"Hmm," Quick Draw said. "I thin it needs a little work." He placed a black mask over his eyes and snickered.
"That's your costume?" Snag asked. "Seems a little lacking...diminutive, even."
"No it ain't! I'm the Masked Cowboy! An' dooooonn't you forgit it!"
Everyone began to laugh, then Huck looked up at the clock.
"Shucks, fellers! We'd better get movin' if we don't wanna be late to meet up with Yogi and Boo-Boo for the big Halloween party!"
"You're right, Huck!" Augie cried. "Is the bus ready?"
"Yep! She's all gassed up and ready to go!"
"Then, let's go!" Quick Draw exclaimed. "We don't wanna keep Yogi and Boo Boo waiting!"
Everyone ran outside and got in the bus and soon they were bound for Jellystone Park! As they sputtered down the road, they started seeing so many people in so many different costumes along the way.
"Look at that, dear ol' dad!"Augie cried. "There's Little Red Riding Hood!"
"I can see, son of mine!" Doggie Daddy replied. "And there's the wolf right beside her!"Snag looked out the other side of the bus. "Ahoy! A merry band of pirates off the port bow! Yo-ho-ho, even!"
Quick Draw placed a hoof to his forehead and glanced through the window. "Garsh! Now that there's a miiiighty spooky bunch o' zombies over there! I hope they're not hungry for horses!"
