Chapter 17

Jane's POV (July 31st 2011,18:45, Mt Justice)

I stood against the wall of the Main Mission Room, just listening to the debrief since I knew they were getting debriefed for the mission to go get my rights.

"Aqualad you will lead the entire team into the facility, you have a very small window between 20:45 and 21:00, because that's when the guard shift ends" Black Canary explain.

"Locate the rights and vacate the premises as quickly as possible" Red Tornado adds in his mechanical voice. "Use force only when needed".

"What about me?" I ask on impulse. I step into the main room. Why did I do that? I could have just listened in and then been super sneaky about just getting on the plane. Everybody in the room turns to look at me, apparently just now noticing I was in the room.

"Where'd you get the mask?" Wally asks. It's then that I remember I was still wearing the mask I had stolen from Robin. My eyes dart to Robin, who has found a new mask that he can wear.

"Nowhere" I say quickly, hoping no one would notice that it was Robin's mask. I quickly peel the mask off my face before another question could be asked.

"It looks familiar" Wally points out.

"I am going on this mission, right?" I ask hoping I actually could go and Robin was just being a jerk. But Black Canary and Red Tornado share a look that says what I wanted to happen wouldn't happen.

"Jane we can't exactly let you go" Black Canary says.

"Why not?" I ask.

"It would be unwise to let you go you have only trained for a few days" Red Tornado reasons.

"I've only trained for a few days here" I argue. "But you're looking at a martial arts expert thanks to that god forsaken lab"

"She did take down the boys" Black Canary points out.

"Except me"Robin adds.

"As far as I'm concerned you don't count" I snap. "Since you figured I wouldn't be ready". I seethed with anger towards Robin.

"The serum gave me added strength and agility. I can run for long periods of time. I have a little bit of control on my powers as well, but I dont need them to win in a fight".

Black Canary looks beat and willing to let me join on the mission, but Red Tornado is persistent

"If they catch you we cannot get you back they have legal rights over you and you will be captive" Red Tornado says.

My blood turns cold and the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I literally could feel the ice burning in my veins. I didn't think of that. As much as I wanted to play a part in my freedom from that horrid place. Could I really risk the chance that I could end up trapped there all over?

I thought I could. Going there meant a chance to ask Schwimmer, ask them all "Why?". Why did you have to hurt me?

I wanted to say I didn't care, that I'd liked to see them try. I needed to say those things, but I couldn't say it out loud.

But I still needed to go.

"Your Right" I say, leaning back against the wall. " I shouldn't go".

"You will all leave in 20 minutes" Red Tornado says.

20 minutes was all I had to make a very stupid decision.

After the team receives its orders. They split up and go to prepare for the mission. I on the other hand dash into my closet room and try to find something remotely comfortable to wear.
