*Time skip, morning*
Kakashi's pov:
"What the HECK-" I bolt up from the bed at the sound of an angry Asuma. Sleep still lingering my eyes, I noticed she was still asleep, all rolled up in the blanket.
She must have rolled to the other side in her sleep, I thought to myself and smiled internally.
Before Asuma could say anything else, I managed to cover his mouth and drag him to the living room, closing the door quietly behind me. I hope she didn't wake up.
When I removed my hand from his mouth, he was ready to tell me off, but I spoke before he could.
"Asuma, this is really important. Listen to me."
He picks up the seriousness in my voice and eases up a little, but his hands were still balled up in a fist.
"Yesterday while we were coming back from Lady Tsunade's office after our mission briefing, we passed by Minato-sensei and Kushina-san's grave.."
He immediately understood and his hands opened from the fist. A drop of sweat fell from his head.
"I had to bring her back here. I was going to call you but she refused."
His eyebrows scrunched in question
"She said you would be sad if I tell you. I got up to go to the guest room, to sleep there in case she needs to be comforted again but she insisted that I stayed with her."
"Asuma, she was panicking again." I looked up at him, nervously cracking my knuckles.
Asuma was quiet the whole time. After a deep breath. He said,
"I still remember how depressed she was till about 7 months after their death... I'm in constant worry and anxiety about her falling into that phase again Kakashi. She had to be hospitalized because she hadn't eaten for days. S- She was just seven!" He looked up, revealing the worry on his face.
I remember that phase of her, she looked like she was barely clinging onto her life. She didn't even speak for one whole week. She was just an innocent seven year-old kid.
"So am I, Asuma, which is why I stayed the night with her. She didn't want me to go, and I was scared of her having the nightmares again."
He gave me an understanding nod.
"Okay, but why are you shirtless? I swear if you tried to take advantage of her breakdown-"
"No Asuma. Just think to yourself, why would i do that to her? She was shivering, and the thin blanket wasn't enough to protect her from the cold. Her shirt was drenched from sweat. I just gave her mine."
He nodded. "Fine, but if it happens again you tell me, no matter what she says."
I agreed to him because arguing was pointless.
He gets up and gently opens the door to Ina's room, to find her soundly sleeping... rays of light from the window were falling on her smooth skin and her silky dark brown hair, making them glow in a hazel shade.
At that moment, she looked like God's most beautiful creation; even when she wasn't smiling, and her face was covered in tear stains.
We see her slowly blinking her eyes open as she yawns big.
"Kashi?" She calls me in her sweet sleepy voice, and closes her eyes again.
My heart melts at her voice.
"Mm Ina?" I try to sound as neutral as possible considering Asuma was suspicious of me.
She doesn't speak anything after that, but shows a tiny smile on her face.
