v: a glimpse of the future
✧
THE rest of the tributes couldn't wait to be claimed by their godly parent. The tributes wondered what would appear above their heads. A trident? A spear? A skull and crossbones? A light bulb? What if they weren't claimed at all?
After the symbol above Finch's head disappeared, the entire camp began to clap. Finch smiled and ran to the back of the group of tributes.
"Thank gosh that's over" Finch said relieved.
Chiron smiled. "Come have a meal!"
All the tributes went to go find an empty table to sit down. Empty plates and a cup sat in front of them.
"So exactly how do we use this?" Cato asked picking up the plate and examining it.
"I'm pretty sure they told us to ask for what we want" Finch said.
"Oh ok thanks let me just talk to the plate" Cato said sarcastically. "Like that's going to work"
Finch rolled her eyes and said "Cheeseburger please"
Suddenly, it appeared on her plate. Finch's eyes widened. Then she looked at her glass. "Um... water". Her cup filled with water up to the brim.
"Cool!" Rue said excitedly. "Let me try!" she looked at her plate and said "Um...Pizza".
A slice of cheese pizza suddenly appeared. Rue almost fainted form the shock. She looked at the cup. "Strawberry milk!"
The cup filled with a pink, milky liquid. Rue drank it, the sweetness of the milk filling her mouth.
"I'm sorry what?" Marvel asked, raising an eyebrow.
Rue laughed. "You haven't lived if you haven't tried it"
Marvel reluctantly asked his cup for strawberry milk. He drank, and his eyes widened. He drank the cup in less than thirty seconds and instantly wanted more.
"THIS IS THE BEST DRINK I'VE EVER HAD! OMG!" Marvel said, draining the next two cups. Everyone was laughing except Glimmer. She rolled her eyes but let a small smile escape.
Soon, everyone was eating their supposed dinner. The tributes were happy that they got to eat real food instead of food for the wilderness.
After dinner everyone headed to a campfire. It wasn't an ordinary one though. The fire was so unnaturally colored, but as the crowd's mood changed so did the color of the fire. The entire camp seem sad and gloomy.
Chiron went in front of the campfire, his horse tail failing around. Everyone suddenly stopped talking, and the campfire instantly grew shorter.
"Hello campers and Hunters of Artemis" Chiron said. Everyone cheered.
"I would like to introduce you to the newest members of the camp" Chiron said, pointing towards the tributes. "They're from the future".
Suddenly, the fire became shorter and turned into a shade of dark blue. The campers and Hunters started whispering and looking at the group of tributes.
"We believe something strange is going on" Chiron explained. "Our camper, Aurora Campbelle was reading a book about these fellow tributes you see here. Being the daughter of Apollo she saw a glimpse of the future."
The fire turned black. The campers look stress and nervous, especially Aurora.
"Aurora please come up and tell us what you saw" Chiron said.
"What I saw was horrible," Aurora started off. "Cities being destroyed by giants, monsters hunting down demigods and new horrible and evil governments."
"But the worst of all, I saw the tribute's homes. The country Panem. It rose after The United States fell, but the stupidness of the Capitol led them into a disagreement with the demigods. They cause demigods to uprise against them. The Capitol was furious. Although the demigods were powerful they still lost and since then they have decided to punish the districts and demigods with a game called The Hunger Games."
"Look the Capitol rigs the reapings purposely. They reap demigods each year as a punishment" Aurora said, her voice shaking.
"You see, demigods are rare in your time. They found out you were demigods and found your loved ones and had them reaped."
"That's why Prim was reaped" Katniss muttered.
"But I volunteered!" Cato exclaimed.
"Yeah cause you saw Clove" Astrid said as she winked at Clove.
"Ahem" Aurora said. "Back to the point. You all are very powerful demigods. If my vision is correct you will fight with us against Kronos and participate in the 3rd Quarter Quell of The Hunger Games. You'll just need to get claimed by your godly parent."
"And how exactly are we going to do that?" Marvel asked.
"You don't. You can't just force your parent to claim you." Thalia said. "Oh by the way my Hunters and I are going to be leaving now. Artemis requests us for a meeting. Maybe we'll see each other in battle?"
"Yeah maybe. See you soon Thalia!" Astrid said, as Thalia waved and walked out of sight.
"So we have to wait? Like what if they don't claim us?" Thresh asked.
"They will if Aurora's vision is correct." Astrid said.
"Ok then. But what about our claiming?" Cato said curiously. "When will it happen?"
Astrid looked at them for a few seconds and laughed. "For a few of you, about right now."
Suddenly, Rue, Thresh and Cato felt a warm and comforting glow above their heads. They didn't know what if was but it felt good. They looked up and gasped.
A piece of grain was above Thresh and Rue's heads. A spear was above Cato's. The piece of grain was shining with green and the spear was shining as well but the color red.
Rue looked up and didn't know who it was and didn't dare look back, the whole camp was staring at them. She also saw the same symbol above Thresh's head. He looked at Rue and raised an eyebrow.
Rue scrambled through her mind trying to remember which god or goddess this was but he mind went blank.
Luckily Chiron helped her remember.
"Hail, Cato, Son of Ares, and Thresh and Rue, son and Daughter of Demeter"
