Chapter 9 found her

I pushed my feet forward, each step hurt and if I was to continue this I would end up with severe frostbites.

But I couldn't just stop here.

Aslan nudged my shoulder as if telling me to get moving, and I patted his head. Halting and resting, was the same as to freeze slowly to death.

I had to go on- the only place I could think off, was the little clearing in the middle of the east forest, I didn't understand why she had gone there, but it didn't matter for now. The place was dangerous, wild animal hunted there deer and whatever they found, and in this cold sister Rose old body wouldn't last much longer.

Forward. I just had to continue for a little longer.

Aarons POV

"You should be more careful. A girl like her could poison you at any whim." Jason- the human that wouldn't leave us, was letting Leon know about "women"- not that I was interested in it, but it was good to have him off our backs for a while.

I concentrated on our surrounding hoping to find any clue, but it seemed futile.

The snow was pileing up, thus erasing any scent and footprints that could have been once there.

The routs which the ninny took, were nothing but a labyrinth, sure as hell she didn't know a bit of how to search for her beloved nun.

I smiled at the thought of punishing her, making me wander around like some ordinary dog, digging my snout trough the ground, she would have to pay dearly.

"I still don't understand why she put herself in such a danger." Mumbled Leon behind Jason on the horse.

Alistair and I looked at him once before burring our muzzles back into the snow.

"She seems to be the reckless type, in an all's good- all's nice way." The answer came from the hunter his voice sure of it.  I had to agree with him, the way she rode her horse, the way she wandered in the cottage and even in this forest, she was reckless- in a very stupid way.

"How would you know? Is that again your 'poison-theory" Leon scoffed, it seemed he had found quite a liking on the girl.

"No, I spoke with the nuns and villagers about the sister, their names went hand in hand. The girl does whatever she thinks is right, not considering how wrong things could go."

I turned my head to look at him, surprised that he took the time to look the two of them up.

Leon seemed to share my opinion looking suspicious at the young man before him.

"Why would a hunter worry about something like that?" he asked confused.

"You hunt humans with your head, you ask about their friends, where they usually go to, what they do or say. It makes it easier to capture them." Jason answered like it was common knowledge. How to hunt humans he had said, this just screams trouble. I made a silently note in my head to keep him away from our pack and went back to task.

Time went by fast, and the horse that was behind me all this time suddenly dashed forward. Jason looked back at me shouting over his shoulder.

"There should be a clearing around here somewhere, we should search there too."

I grunted not liking the thought of following a humans order. Alistair thought whimpered slightly, only wanting to sleep and rest. I could understand him- I too longed for some rest.

Mellows POV

My heart was drumming hard in my chest, the blood in seemed to rush into my head. My vision blurred at the sudden tears that accumulated there.

I had found her.

My make-shift torch barley illuminated the place and it was more miracle than anything but still- I had found her.

"Sister." I whispered my voice already being buried by the falling snow.

She had curled up against a tree, her form remained unmoving, if I hadn't paid attention I would have never found her.

"Sister!" I called out again this time with a firmer voice and stumbled my way towards her.

Once there I fell to my knees. Lifting the scarf she had thrown over her body and face to look at her some more. Her eyes slowly opened, she looked pale and tired.

"My angel." She whispered tired and closed her eyes again. "Am I dreaming again?" She chuckled a little at herself. I hugged her with all my might, making sure not burn her with my torch thought.

"What are you talking about? I'm right here by your side, because this is where I belong." Sister Rose hesitated, but my warmth seeped through her cold clothes and into her body, and  realizing that this was no dream, hugged me back.

We remained like that for second more, before I collected myself, I put the torch right beside us so it illuminated her face. "Are you hurt sister? Are you in pain?" I asked her as I was already rummaging through the bottles with liquid and potions I had made for the church.

"I was bitten, the wolves surprised me, but they luckily choose to follow my horse instead of me." She rubbed her leg and I brought out several flask and crucible that were meant to disinfect and heal wounds and a bandage. An animals wound was serious, it could get infected easily, killing the victim or if one was lucky it was just a missing limb.

I kneeled down beside her, putting my scarf around her, because she looked like she would freeze to death anytime.

She slowly removed her cloth which she had stopped the bleeding with, to give me access to her wound. I swallowed hard taking in the damage, it was gruesome, very deep as well, and it seemed like it was already starting to infect.

Sister Rose moaned in pain as I cleaned the wound, if hadn't been for the numbing cold, she would be screaming at the top of her lungs, I thought dryly.

Once I was done, I covered up her leg and smiled at her. "It's going to be okay. We just need to bring you home now."

I quickly packed up the things I had been using, not wanting to look to long in her wise old eyes.

Because I had lied.

It wouldn't be just okay.

But my first worry was how to bring her home. She was in no state to ride now and Aslan needed rest, his blistered feet and injury wouldn't let us proceed smoothly.

"It seems like we will have to go through the night, angel." Sister Rose weak voice brought out of my inner turmoil and I looked at her confused before understanding what she meant.

In mere seconds the flame of my torch flicked out leaving us in the dark.

I had nothing burnable with me now, the rest of the bandages wouldn't last long enough and the wood was cold and wet.

What should I do now? I should have prepared better, I was to rash, this was all because of my bad judgement.

The silent answer came from sister Rose. She opened her thin cloak, inviting me in her arms.

I bit lip, angry at myself, that I would panic now when I was needed.

Pulling off the new mantel I had gotten from Lady Gandowolf and Beatrice, I put it around the sister and plopped down in her arms, hugging her and rubbing some warmth back in her numb back.

"Do you remember last Christmas? The father was so angry because I had spilled his good wine." I said blabbering about everything, just to keep her awake. And she randomly commented back.

I don't know how long we held each other like this. Me rubbing her limps and back, while talking to her, and sister Rose fighting to stay awake.

It was pitch black around us, only Aslan noticed our pursuers come nearer.

He cried out and jumped on his three legs agitated while I tried to figure out the threat that was coming our way.
