regulus and dorcas walked in silence to the dungeons, the silence was unbearable for dorcas, even though it calmed regulus. she decided to speak up, ask about what happened moments ago, "what was that, regulus?"
"i have no idea what you're talking about." he said calmly, not looking at her.
"regulus, stop with that act. why did you get all defensive about snape?"
regulus' walking slows, and he looks in her direction, "dorcas, just because you don't speak up when someone talks about your fellow slytherins, doesn't mean i won't. severus is our friend, for salazar's sake."
dorcas scoffs, offended by the accusation, "i do speak up, they just never stop."
he glances at her, "doesn't it worry you that they might speak about you too?"
she frowns, "i have never thought about it that way."
regulus rolls his eyes, "of course, you haven't."
"they would never, though. they're my friends, no friends would do that."
"we're all slytherins to them, dorcas. if you talked about one of their gryffindors, they would do worse than i did."
"regulus, i know what i'm talking about. they would never do that to me."
"do you think that justifies talking about other slytherins? ones that didn't even harm them?"
"they say foul words, regulus."
"like what? like mudblood?"
dorcas' eyes widen, "regulus! you can't say that!"
"why not? it's not like i'm saying all muggles aren't worthy of using magic."
she looks at him frustratedly, "it's still an insult."
"so is slimy, ponce, unbearable, snake." he hums, looking around. "all insults are horrible, you can't justify some, and the other not. the word mudblood is bad, yes, but you can't let your so called righteous friends call your slytherin friends foul names. everyone is horrible, meadows. just accept it." he sighs, "let's just go. stay quiet, i need the silence."
dorcas looks at him, she knows regulus is like a puzzle, perhaps a fruit, a fruit that has the strangest shape and you're still contemplating on how to eat it. it's weird, one moment she's with her gryffindor friends, telling her there is at least a speck of good in everyone, the other she's with her slytherin friends, telling her that everyone is horrible, and that it's fine.
she breathes heavily, and looks ahead.

it seems like the world was keen on tormenting regulus. he groans, buttoning his dark green shirt, "is there seriously no way i can stay? i don't want to go to this party."
wilhelm chuckles, "there's no way, mate. charity will murder us all if we don't go. nice shirt, by the way. the colour suits one of your eyes."
evan laughs, "one of his eyes?"
regulus scowls, and looks at evan, "shut up, rosier." and the looks at wilhelm, "thank you."
barty gasps, "oh my! the great regulus knows how to say thank you!" he says, when someone suddenly opens the door to their dorm. they all turn suddenly, just to find mulciber panting, ready to scream at them.
"why aren't you all ready yet!? we're all done, and charity will murder us all if we're not there by eight!" he screeches.
they all started scrambling around the room, trying to finish as soon as possible. when they were all done, they ran outside of the dorms and common room like madmen, meeting up with the others outside, and they headed together to the hufflepuff party.
