Kim Haewon
7 YEARS LATER:
"daddy! look!" my three year old daughter yelled. My husband sat up, and I did too, looking to where our daughter had made a square out of sticks.
"Well done baby!" Hyunjin called back. I smiled and lay back down on the picnic blanket. Hyunjin did the same, putting his arm over my stomach.
We had been married for 4 years, and we had a three year old daughter called Hanni. Little did our daughter know, probably because she was too young, that I was expecting another one. I was 6 months pregnant. My bump wasn't that evident, it never really was. I guess different bodies have different bumps.
"are you trying to crush our child?" i asked softly.
He gave a small laugh and sat up slightly, looking back down at me. I smiled back up at him, and he brushed the hair out of my face, his eyes still on mine. He then leaned down, his lips meeting mine. I ran my hand through his hair as he kissed me more passionately, then gently pulled away. He was still a few inches away from me, and he smiled.
"you're so cute," he said, then lay back down.
We were in the woods, or should I say, we were in our place. We had brought our daughter here a few times, but now she was old enough to appreciate it, and have fun.
"Daddy!" she yelled. Hyunjin sat up again.
"what's wrong Hanni?" he called back, a small smile on his face.
"i found a house!" me and Hyunjin both looked at each other, then he smiled and stood up, gave me his hand, and pulled me up. Hand in hand, we walked over to the place where my daughter was indicating too.
The small open room, where we had carved our initials. Once seven years ago, once twelve years ago.
"what is this?" she pointed to the letters.
"it says 'k h' and 'h h'" Hyunjin told her, squeezing my hand. Hanni frowned.
"that doesn't make sense," she pouted. Hyunjin laughed and kissed her head, ruffling her black hair.
"it will one day." and with that, he picked her up and carried her out of the room. I picked up the blanket, and we made our way back to the car. It was around 6pm, and it would be Hanni's bed time soon. I was praying she would fall asleep in the car.
Hyunjin strapped her in, and I threw the stuff into the back seat, then climbed into the passenger seat. Hyunjin walked round the car, then into the drivers seat.
"alright, Babe?" he asked. I nodded.
"always," i hummed. "you?"
"mhm," he nodded and started up the car. He reached his hand across and held mine, resting it on my thigh.
"daddy, why are you holding mummy's hand?" Hanni piped up immediately.
If it has escaped your attention, Hanni is extremely protective over her father. Me not so much.
I gave a small laugh, and Hyunjin smiled, squeezing my hand.
"because she's my wife," he replied simply. "and i love her."
"do you love me?" she asked.
"of course i do."
"more than Mummy?"
i glared at Hyunjin. He grinned.
"Mmm, depends on the day," he said. I smiled and rested my head against the headrest, closing my eyes slightly.
The drive home was smooth, apart from the fact that Hanni did not fall asleep, instead she sang quietly to herself the whole way.
We got home when it had just hit sunset, and Hyunjin turned to me.
"tired?" he asked. I shook my head, and he smiled. He leaned in slightly, his lips about to touch mine, until our daughter protested.
"Daddy!" she said. He leaned back and turned to her.
"what's wrong?" he asked. She frowned.
"why are you kissing Mummy?" she asked, I scoffed.
"he's mine," i said to her. She scowled.
"he's mine!" she said. I gave a little laugh.
"Ladies, there's enough to go around," he said, reaching into the back and squeezes Hanni's leg.
He turned back to me and quickly pecked my lips, then turned around and opened his car door.
That's it?
I rolled my eyes and opened my car door. Hyunjin picked our daughter up and took her upstairs.
"i'll put her to sleep," he called back. Silently thanking the lord, I made my way to the kitchen, to make a cup of hot chocolate. My favourite.
What would have been around ten minutes later, I heard Hyunjin's heavy footsteps, then the door opening.
"that was quick," i commented. he gave a small hum, then came over behind me and spun me around, arms around my waist.
"hello," he said.
"hello," i replied, and he crashed his lips onto mine. I immediately kissed him back, hands travelling to his hair.
"i love you," he whispered, embracing me, his head in my hair.
"love you more," i whispered back.
Three months later, I gave birth to our first son. We named him Jaehyun, and Hanni loved him. Not as much as she loved Hyunjin, of course.
Three years later, after a wild night, I gave birth to our second son, Yeonjun.
And I guess that brings me to the end of my wild story, filled with failed romance, then completed romance.
