The night of the Mirrorball Charity Gala was in full swing. Karlee found herself proud with what she and Marcy pulled off. The event was a resounding success, with guests mingling and dancing the night away in support of a worthy cause.
Karlee couldn't help but feel a swell of pride as she looked around the room, taking in the sight of the beautifully decorated ballroom and the smiling faces of the attendees. Everything had come together perfectly.
But as the night wore on and the champagne flowed freely, Karlee's attention was drawn to a scene unfolding across the room—a scene that filled her with a mixture of unease and frustration.
There, in the dimly lit corner of the ballroom, Arthur stood locked in conversation with a striking brunette, her laughter evident on her face as she leaned in close to him, her hand resting lightly on his arm.
Karlee's heart sank at the sight, a knot of jealousy twisting in the pit of her stomach as she watched the two of them interact. She knew she had no right to feel this way—Arthur was free to talk to whoever he pleased—but the sight of him being charmed by another woman stung more than she cared to admit.
For a moment, Karlee considered intervening, marching over to reclaim Arthur's attention, and put an end to the flirtation once and for all. But as she hesitated, uncertainty gnawing at her resolve, she couldn't shake the nagging feeling that perhaps she was overreacting—that perhaps Arthur was simply being polite and friendly, nothing more. It's not like she could demand he not give the other woman attention since they were only best friends. But ever since she recalled the kiss from New Year's Eve, it was gnawing at her to talk to him about it, but he had shown no signs of remember the moment and she didn't want to risk their friendship.
Sure, it had been months since new year's eve but things were different between Arthur and her, and she didn't quite remember what had happened until Marcy birthday when both Arthur and her had gotten so drunk that they ended up almost kissing when the memory came flooding back in.
With a heavy sigh, Karlee tore her gaze away from the scene before her, forcing herself to focus on the task at hand—ensuring that the rest of the evening went off without a hitch. But deep down, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the back of her mind, a silent reminder of the unresolved tension between her and Arthur.
As the night progressed, Karlee tried her best to bury her feelings of unease and focus on her duties as the host of the event. She circulated among the guests, offering warm smiles, and engaging in polite conversation, all the while keeping a discreet eye on Arthur and the mysterious brunette.
But no matter how hard she tried to distract herself, Karlee couldn't shake the feeling of jealousy that gnawed at her insides like a persistent ache. She couldn't understand why she felt this way—after all, Arthur was free to socialize with whomever he pleased, and she had no right to lay claim to his attention.
