⚠️Trigger warning ⚠️
⚠️Mention of miscarriage. ⚠️Y/n drags Gustave along. He squirms, but she clutches onto him with a righty grip.
"Please, Miss L/n...
I want to go back...
I want my mother..."Gustave whimpers, trying to get away. In a cracked and broken voice
Y/n begins to sing."The world is hard,
the world is mean,
it's hard to keep your conscience clean...""Please... You're hurting me." Gustave cries.
"The sea is calm,
the sea is gray,
it washes everything away..."She has brought him to the very edge of the pier. Dark water churns below. "I can't swim..." Gustave panics. "Don't worry, it's almost over..." Y/n assures him.
"Sink into the deep...
Blue and cool and kind...
Then drift off to sleep...
Let the past unwind -
Leave the hurt behind...""Gustave!" Christine cries out. The Phantom, Christine and Madame Giry have arrived. At the sound of his mother's voice Gustave looks up. "Mother..?" Gustave exclaims, relieved to see his mother. "No, I'm not done yet..." Y/n growls.
The Phantom waves the others back, and he strides purposefully toward Y/n. "Let go of the boy, now!" The Phantom growls. He moves closer and closer. Then, Y/n pulls out the gun and points it at the Phantom. "Not another step!" Y/n exclaims wildly, causing the Phantom to stop. "Let go of him, girl, or I promise you - -" The Phantom grits through clenched teeth. The child wriggles free and runs to Christine. "Not another word!" Y/n screams at him. The Phantom takes a step back.
"Always wondered how to make you watch -
Well watch me now!"Y/n sings, her voice full of rage.
"I took a little trip to Coney Island.
I took a little trip, because of you.
I did as Madame said,
and followed where you led,
and tried to do what little I could do.Well here's the way it works on Coney Island -
They make you pay for every little crumb.
I gave what they would take,
I gave it for your sake,
now look at me and see what I've become."With self loathing she continues to sing.
"Bathing beauty,
on the beach...
Bathing beauty,
in her dressing room...
Bathing beauty,
In the dark,
On their laps,
In their arms,
In their beds - -""Y/n, my little Y/n!" Madame Giry sobs, as she watches the sweet girl she once new become distraught.
"And who kept singing,
desp'rate for your favor?
Who kept dancing,
hoping you would save her?
Who kept dying,
and this is what you gave her!"Y/n gestures with the gun; all flinch, except the Phantom.
"Now that I've got your attention at last...
Here's the big finnish,
and then you can go..."She lowers her gaze, and puts the gun to her own head.
"Give me the gun, Y/n...
Give me the hurt and the pain and the gun, Y/n...
Give me the blame for not seeing the things that you've done, Y/n...
Give me the gun, Y/n...
Give me the chance to see you clear at last..."Wanting to believe she sings along.
"See me clear at last..."
"You feel ugly,
you feel used,
you feel broken,
you feel bruised,
ah, but me,
I can see all the beauty underneath...""Yes..." Y/n whispers.
"You've been robbed of love and pride,
been ignored and pushed aside -
Even so, I still know there is beauty underneath...""Yes..!" Y/n sighs in relief.
"Diamonds never sparkle bright,
If they aren't set just right...
Beauty sometimes goes unseen...
We can't all be like Christine - -"At the mention of Christine's name Y/n snaps. "You don't know the truth! You don't see the ugliness behind her beauty! She's been lying to you!" Y/n screams. "What do you mean?" The Phantom asks, trying to calm her down. "The boy." Y/n whispers, emotionless. "What about the boy?!" He growls. "Don't you dare!" Christine yells.
"Curse you!
You little lying Delilah!
You little viper!"Y/n points the gun at Christine, causing Gustave to scream. "Leave. Leave America. Go back to Raoul. You're not wanted here you whore."
Y/n growls. "No! Not before someone explains what is going on!" The Phantom yells."Shall I tell him or you?" Y/n cocks her head, lowering the gun. Christine glares at Y/n.
"How could you think I wouldn't guess?
How could you think I wouldn't know?
Do you have something to confess?
Tell him the truth right now, if so!""Madame Giry, take Gustave for some cotton candy. Calm him down. He doesn't need to hear this." Y/n nods to Madame Giry. "Gustave, I'm sorry for frightening you, dear. I just needed him to listen to me." Y/n whispers, giving Gustave a small smile as him and Madame Giry leave.
"I demand answers now." The Phantom growls. "Gustave isn't your son. He never was. He never has been. He is Raoul's son. Christine lied to you. She used you. She thought if you believed the boy to be yours she could come back and drain you of your money." Y/n explains. "No. No it's not true." The Phantom whispers, appalled.
"It is." Christine sneers. "Leave. Go. Go now! Go now and leave me!" The Phantom screams and falls to the ground. Christine turns away and goes to find Gustave. "I understand if you hate me. But I'd do anything to protect you. I had to tell you otherwise you'd have never known." Y/n whispers and tosses the gun into the sea.
The Phantom remains silent and stares at the ground, shaking with anger as he silently cries. "If you wish to never see me again I'm fine with that. You know why? Because I have our memories. You never always ignored me. You did love me at one point. Especially that night." Y/n looks out into the sea, a tear rolls down her cheek.
"Once there was a night beneath a moonless sky,
Too dark to see a thing,
too dark to even try,
I stole to your side to tell you I must go
I couldn't see your face but sensed you even so..."Y/n placed her hand over her stomach as she sings. The Phantom looks up to see her singing. Y/n's voice is filled with raw emotion as she sings about that one night. That night that she'll never forget.
"Once upon another time,
I knew how our story would end,
And maybe I was wrong,
But now the moment's gone.""But now the moment's gone..."
Y/n rubs her stomach and sobs. "No..." The Phantom utters, astounded by what he has figured out. "What caused it?" He whispers. "Stress. I lost it when I heard Christine was arriving. I knew I'd instantly loose you. I planned to tell you. I really did. But fate was cruel." Y/n utters.
"You should have told me... You shouldn't have had to face that alone." The Phantom insists. "I didn't want to hurt you. You've already faced so much pain in your life. Why add to it?" Y/n sniffles. "Oh Y/n..." He sighs and stands.
He strides over to her and pulls her into his arms. He places a delicate kiss on the crown of her head. "I was blind. Blinded by her beauty." The Phantom whispers, ashamed of himself. "She wasn't even that pretty." Y/n grumbles, causing the Phantom to chuckle.
"How far along were you?" He whispers, softly. "Two months." She answers, leaning into him. "Forgive me. I beg you. Forgive this stupid man." He pleads. "I forgive you." She smiles softly and kissed his cheek.
