"WHAT IS THIS?" Olivia asked as she followed Minho into a shack that was hidden far away from the Glade. Thomas followed behind her as Minho walked around. There were bits of wood with things carved into them hanging on the walls. Thomas and Olivia turned away from them when Minho took the tarp off the big thing in the middle of the room. Revealing a miniature maze made with sticks.Olivia raised her eyebrows, impressed at all the detail. Thomas leant down closer to it. "That's the maze. All of it." Minho sighed out. "What do you mean all of it? I thought you were still mapping it." Thomas looked up at him. "There's nothing left to map." Minho admitted, making both Olivia and Thomas furrow their eyebrows at him. "I've run every inch of it myself. Every cycle. Every pattern. If there was a way out we would've found it by now." Minho looked down at the maze. "What?" Olivia's voice cracked. "You're telling me there's no way out?" Minho looked up at her with sympathy in his eyes, which quickly made her remember that it wasn't his fault.
"Why haven't you told anyone this?" Thomas said lowly. "It was Alby's call. People needed to believe we had a chance of getting out." Minho explained. "But maybe now, we have a real chance." Minho handed Thomas the metal thing they had found in the Griever. Olivia was looking at the maze, fascinated by how many paths there was.
"Take a look at this." Minho leant against the table that the maze was on. "About a year ago, we started exploring these outer sections." He held his hand over the part he was talking about. "And we found these numbers printed on the walls." He explained the rocks that had numbers on them just sitting there. "Sections one through eight. See the way it works, is every night when the maze changes, it opens up a new section." He looked up at Thomas and Olivia, who were looking at him. "So today, section six was open. Tomorrow it'll be four and then eight, then three." He trailed off. "The pattern always stays the same."
Thomas looked down at the device in his hands and wiped the now dry goo away from the little screen that read 7. "What's so special about seven?" He looked at Minho. "I don't know. Last night when you killed that Griever, section seven was open. I think it must be where it comes from." Minho walked around the two and stood in front of 'section seven'. Olivia looked at Thomas, who was watching Minho's movements. "Tomorrow, we're gonna take a closer look." Minho slightly smiled, making them both nod their heads.
Olivia jumped when she saw two boys come running towards the shack. "Hey! What are you guys doing? You're not allowed in here." Minho stated. "Sorry. It's just the, uh—" One of the boys tried to catch his breath. "It's the girl." The other finished for him, making Olivia stand up straighter. " Is she awake?" Thomas asked. "You could say that."
Olivia looked at Thomas before quickly making her way back to the Glade, everyone else following. "Chuck! What's going on?" She stopped next to the laughing boy. "Girls are awesome." He smiled and pointed at the lookout. There was a lot of yelling as a bunch of fruits and vegetables were being thrown off the top, hitting all the boys who tried to shield themselves.
