OLIVIA WOKE UP to the sound of footsteps making their way closer to the pit. She leaned up as best as she could, as Thomas was still using her thighs as a pillow. Her neck cracked as she looked up to see Newt, Teresa, Minho and Chuck. They crouched down in front of the makeshift door and made themselves comfortable. The girl rubbed her eyes and blinked. Just as she went to say good morning, she felt movement on her lap. She looked down and saw the dark haired boy re-adjust his head and slowly open his eyes.
His eyes immediately found hers as she smiled down at him. "Hey, stranger." One of her hands found its way to his hair to start playing with it gently, making him relax. Her other hand rested on his chest while he studied her face, admiring her effortless beauty.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Chuck's voice caused them both to turn their heads. Thomas sat up when he saw four people looking down at them. He looked at everyone before his eyes landed back on Olivia's. "What happened?" He asked softly. "Galley's taken control. He said we had a choice, either join him or get banished at sun down with you." Newt spoke to the boy. Thomas rolled his eyes, making Olivia hold back a smile.
"And the others agreed to that?" He sat up properly so he could face everyone without having to turn his head. "Gally has everyone convinced that you're the reason all of this has happened." Teresa's eyes flickered back and forth between Thomas and Olivia as she explained. Olivia furrowed her eyebrows and looked at the boy, who was rubbing his knees. "Well, he's been right so far." Thomas breathed out as he looked everywhere but the blonde's eyes.
Olivia tilted her head, along with the others. "What are you talking about?" Minho spoke up. "This place, it's not what we thought it was." He began. "It's not a prison, it's a test. It all started when we were kids. They'd give us these challenges. They were experimenting on us." Olivia glanced at her hands before immediately looking back up to Thomas. "And then people started disappearing. Every month, one after the other, like clockwork." Thomas looked at Olivia properly. He didn't understand how she was even in front of him, he watched her die.
"Sending them up into the maze." Newt realised. "Yeah, but not all of us." Thomas's eyes softened at the girl. "What do you mean?" Olivia whispered. He stayed silent for a few seconds, contemplating if he should tell her the truth or not. "I'm one of them. The people who put us here, I worked with them." Thomas's voice broke as Olivia looked down at the ground. "I watched you guys for years. The entire time you've been here, I was on the other side of it."
"So were you." Thomas gulped as Olivia's head shot up to see who he was talking to. When she saw his eyes focused on her, she let out a shaky breath. "What?" Her voice shook. "Olivia, we did this to them." He confirmed. Tears immediately filled her eyes, she couldn't bare the thought that she was once apart of the group she despised most. She shook her head, not wanting to accept it. "You're lying. That can't be true." A tear fell down her cheek. "It is. I saw it." He thought back to his dream, remembering it all.
