A/N: so I caved...I started writing the second book that I had planned, but it's not published yet. I wanted to get a head start and write a good ten ish chapters before actually publishing so I avoid the writers block and I'm not too pressured with writing two books at the same time and having to make two chapters every week lol

Second thing, so sorry this update took foreverrrr😫 I was supposed to finish this Sunday, then forgot and was going to post it Monday, but I had finals all week plus my brothers graduation which ran stupidly long😭
Anywayssss finally here it is

I'm sorry, Ce, okay? You know there's no convincing our dad. I think you're going to have to stay there for break.

Staring up at me, that's what the bright screen of my phone reads to me. Sitting in my English class, right in the middle of my new friends, my eyes struggle not to water as they run over the words for the millionth time.

Finally, my fingers move as I type: It's fine. I expected it anyways. Have a good Christmas.

My sister's response is almost instant: You know I tried, yeah? But it's for the better, anyways. You'll have more time to adjust and you can spend it with your friends.

Yeah, I know she tried. For about five minutes before my dad easily manipulated her into believing I was terrible for the family and I'd just ruin the holiday.

"You alright there?" I feel someone's shoulder nudging into mine.

"I'm all good." I force myself to match Luca's kind smile.

"You sure?" His voice lowers, and I'm grateful as, even in the small time of knowing him, I know Grayson is seriously nosey.

"Mhm." I nod with fake enthusiasm, partly to convince him, but partly so he doesn't see my eyes.

"Whatever you say."

I sigh and drop my head back to my desk, fiddling with my fingers as the teacher drones on and on in the background. One thing she says, however, catches my attention and causes short panic to circulate through me.

"I hope you all have made good progress with your projects, hm?" She slightly tilts her head down, her old eyes peering at us over the top of her glasses.

"Oh crap," I mutter under my breath, my eyes finding Matteo, who reciprocates my expression.

The projects due in less than a week, the day before we're supposed to leave for winter break. And we're only about 40% of the way through it.

Well, now I know what I'll be up all night doing.

Grayson sighs glumly. "Meet in the library?"

We all nod our heads grimly.

My lip pulls in between my teeth out of concentration, my eyes set on the paper between Matteo and I.
