My clean shoes squeak atop of the pristine and sleek marble floor, and it's the only sound that accompanies me in the otherwise silent hallway. My feet carry me towards the library, where I'm very sure Cecilia is located, considering she isn't in our dormitory. I pass by a few portraits on the way, and from the corner of my eye I see a few younger students quietly giggling with each other against the wall.

"Matteo?" A feminine voice calls out, but it sounds unrecognizable to me. I ignore the person and keep walking, raising a hand to the golden doorknob as I start to twist it.

"Matteo, stop ignoring me." The voice sounds closer, and more frustrated. It makes me drop my hand for a second, but then I brush the person off and pull the door open again. Only, the girl has used her hands to slam the door shut under me, and then uses that same hand to pull my shoulder until I'm facing her.

As I stand face to face with her, my eyes dropping down to her familiar baby blue's, a scowl instinctively rises onto my face. She, however, smiles in this overly-sweet way that makes my insides churn.

"What do you want?" I say boringly, giving her an uninterested once over in the hopes that she'll catch the hint.

"Nothing, I just missed you. Haven't you missed me?" Her overly large lips pull into an exaggerated pout, staring up at me blinkingly.

"Not really," I say coolly, "I'm actually looking for someone, so if you'll excuse me." I move to step around her, but she reaches her hand to my shoulder, her sharp, manicured nails digging into my skin through the fabric of my shirt.

"Dont touch me." I spit, my scowl deepening and I wretch her hand away.

"Don't walk away from me." She snaps, fake smile instantly dropping and being replaced with a venomous look. "You should know better by now."

"What do you want." I seethe, my patience slowly slipping between my fingers as I tower over her.

"Aww, look at you..." she tuts, tilting her head smugly. "I still get under your skin, don't I?" She pulls her bottom lip under her teeth seductively, and while I would've once loved that, it only fills me with disgust.

"Fuck off, Cas-"

My words are cut off by a sudden creaking sound, and the mahogany door we stand in front of opens to reveal Cecilia.

She stands meekly in the doorway, looking between me and Cassidy with a curious look. "Everything okay...?" She directs the question at the both of us, but her eyes are only looking at me.

"Who's this?" Cassidy drawls slowly, and I can see her perking up in newfound interest. She rakes her eyes over Cecilia, and I wholly despise the look that passes over her.

"Get out of here." I snarl.

Cecilia must not see the unwelcome look I send to Cassidy, because she looks rather hurt as if I was directing the words towards her. I realize it too late though, because she looks suddenly sad as she looks at me.

"And what's your name?" Cassidy ignores me, stepping closer to Cece like a predator hunting prey. And she is a predator. She's a viscous snake who lures innocent people like Cecilia and sinks her teeth into them when they least expect it.

"Cecilia." She answers quietly, and she looks unsurely at her but her politeness wins over her skepticism.

"Mmh," Cass hums, but doesn't offer her name back. "You're a cute little thing, aren't you?" She words it like a compliment, but she sounds terribly condescending and it makes me want wring her neck out.

"Don't talk to her." I speak through clenched teeth, and she looks back to me with a smile.

"Is this your new plaything?" She says, a smirk dancing deviously on her lips. When I don't say anything, she continues. "Not your usual type, hm?"

I choose to ignore her and turn back to Cecilia, softening my expression so she hopefully realizes I'm not trying to be harsh. "Can you go back to our dorm? I'll meet you there in a minute, just need to talk to her."

She nods hesitantly, and without a word goes to walk away when Cassidy stops us again.

"Oh, I see." A look of realization washes over her. "You're that girl that's rooming with the guys. How cute..." Envy fills her eyes, but it's subtle and almost unnoticeable. "Well," she changes her expression into a fake friendly one, and Cece's eyes flicker to me. "Why don't you come hang out with me one day, hm? If you ever get sick of them." She smirks knowingly.

I nod my head at Cecilia, and she flashes a polite smile at Cassidy, but then scurries away with her books in her hands.

When she turns the corner, I level Cassidy with a hard look. "Jesus Christ, you really are something."

"Thank you." She flips her blonde hair over her shoulder.

"That wasn't a compliment." I glare down at her. "I told you a long fucking time ago to leave me the fuck alone or I'd ruin you. You've mainly obeyed that until now, so I'm asking you for the last god damn time. What do you want."

Her eyes turn sad, and she stares up at me with a lost expression. "I miss you..." she takes a chance and reaches up to my chest, trails her long red nails down.

"I don't care."

"You're lying." She smiles like she has me so figured out. "I know you miss me too, I mean, come on, think of all the fun we used to have."

"No."

She sighs long and hard. "What, you want me to believe she makes you feel as good as I did?"

"We're not even together." I roll my eyes, feeling my annoyance grow more and more. "So listen, and listen well when I say this- leave her the fuck alone, don't talk to her, don't mess with her, or I swear to god-"

"You swear what?" Her eyes flash dangerously. "What will you do?"

"Well first of all," I give her a slow smirk. "I'll tell your daddy everything you've been getting yourself into, hm? Bet he would love to know what you've been doing in your free time."

"You wouldn't-"

"You know I would," I tsk. "You've known that, and you've known that I'd follow through with my word, and yet now you've seem to have forgotten your place." I shake my head in disappointment.

She backs up and raises her nose in the air, "you're an asshole." She spits before turning on her heel and stomping away like a child. I only sigh in relief.
