It was the night of the party, I had told my parents I was going so they weren't concerned but they didn't know exactly where I was going. I told them about what had happened at school, with how Calliope burned Juliette to figure out if she was a vampire. We knew we couldn't intervene with how she was going to hunt them, but we had our opinions. Some of the guild agreed with how we ran it, and how other hunters do. The guild is not all in one, there are multiple branches of it, which is why it makes it so easy for us to stay hidden. My parents just told me if I saw them together to always check on them, we didn't want either of them getting hurt and Calliope was most likely going to find herself killed.

Once I walked into the house, I could feel the loud beat changing the pace of my heart. I looked around for Juliette and didn't see her, maybe I had come early. Well earlier than her, I leaned against a wall being able to face the front door. I saw Calliope come in shortly after, looking around as well before walking up the stairs. I knew she was trying to stay hidden from Juliette, I didn't know what her plan was, but I didn't like it. I knew she was going to try killing her, which if she knew anything about legacies, which would be a shock if she did, she would know she was just going to anger her. But Juliette didn't really seem like someone to get angry at that, and I wasn't sure how a legacy would react to it, especially since she hadn't had her first kill and it was obvious she needed it.

I saw Juliette come in with her friend, who I had learned was Ben. My mom met his mom, and they got to talking about it. She said that he was best friends with Juliette, which obviously made it easy to find out who she was talking about. Juliette saw me and her face lit up, I smiled at her and saw Calliope behind her, watching her. Ben gave her a look and looked at me, Ben walked away and Juliette glared at her. Juliette slowly made her way over to me, "Hi, you came." I nodded with a smile, "I did, I'm glad you came and I wasn't here alone." She laughed nervously, "Ben had to convince me, but knowing you were going also helped." "So you came for me?" She started stuttering and I laughed, putting my hand on her arm. "Relax Juliette, I'm just joking." She laughed again, I could tell she was nervous. "Oh, right. Wanna get a drink?" I nodded and we walked over, pouring it ourselves and we talked a little.

I saw her friend Ben come in, a disappointed look on his face. She looked at him then me, I just nodded and she walked over to him, I didn't know what they were saying but he waved her off. Calliope walked past and sat on the couch, Juliette didn't notice her. I think Calliope wanted her to see her, Ben looked nudged Juliette and looked at Calliope. She smiled at Calliope who just stared at her, licking her lips. I couldn't help feeling a little jealous, I shouldn't but it wasn't my fault I did. She nudged him and looked at me, smiling shyly when she saw me looking at her. Ben laughed and pushed her forward, spin the bottle was happening and I thought about it, but I backed up. I wasn't one to just kiss random people and I doubt I would have been lucky enough to land on Juliette.

Calliope took her chance and the bottle spun, it landed on Calliope. Juliette looked at her then at me, before being pushed towards the door. I couldn't tell her what to do and what to not do, it wasn't up to me. Ben came over to me, "I don't think Juliette is gonna kiss her," I shrugged and looked at him, he wasn't much taller than me, maybe an inch. "It's not up to us what she does, she's an independent woman, if she wants to kiss Calliope let her." He looked at me a little confused but shrugged, he walked off and I leaned against the wall. It wasn't long until the lights seemed to turn out and during that time I noticed Calliope sneak out of the closet. She was looking around quickly, my eyes found her, and I could see fear in them. I heard someone scream and looked towards it, I saw Ashley on the ground and ran to her.

I had enough experience of nursing to help, I slid on the ground to her side and checked her injuries. I saw head trauma and noticed her body was failing, "Everyone outside! Call an ambulance!" They ran outside and I heard someone call them, I grabbed my bag and took out a bottle. I wasn't supposed to use the potion unless it was on a family member, but I couldn't let her die. I forced her to drink it, it wouldn't work right away, and she would be able to go to the hospital. It wasn't long until the EMTs came, they took her and I backed up. They walked out and I knew cops would be coming, I looked for Juliette. I heard a phone ringing and went to the closet where I last saw her, I opened the door and quickly rushed in. There she was, a stake in her chest but she was just passed out.

I started pulling it out so it would heal, and that caused her eyes to open. She sat up quickly and I immediately felt her fangs in my neck, I pushed her off and her eyes widened. She covered her mouth and I saw her chest heal slowly. "It's ok, it's ok. Calm down Juliette, we need to get out of here, ok?" She just nodded and I helped her up, I handed her, her phone. We snuck out as cops were filling the house. We ran out the back and I held her hand, I could tell she was freaking out. Once we were far enough away from the house I stopped her, looking at her. "Why would Calliope stake you?" She shook her head, "I don't know, I didn't give her the impression I was a vampire. Gosh, why am I telling you this?" I laughed softly, "I'm probably the safest person you could tell, I won't tell anyone. My family... well we're hunters, but we don't hunt vampires. Only if they are mass murdering people, and it's obvious you guys aren't, well at least not you." She smiled slightly, but I could still she was a little nervous.

"I'm gonna take you home, ok? Maybe you can explain to me why you haven't killed anyone, legacy." She looked at me a little shocked, we walked down the busy road and I found my car, I only had a little bit of my drink and wasn't feeling a thing. We got in and I started driving to her house, with her help. I had been here for a little while, but I didn't know it enough to take her to her house without help. We pulled up and I looked at her, "Hey, park outside the house and sneak to my room. I will keep my window open, then we can talk." I wiped her mouth, it still had my blood on it. She laughed and looked down, "Sorry about biting you," "It's ok, just don't freak out tonight, ok?" She looked at me confused but got out. I drove off and did what she told me to, I snuck over the fence and quietly ran to her house, I waited until I saw a window open.

Once I saw her open her window I climbed up and she helped me in quietly, I smiled at her. "Sneaking me in already?" She gently hit my shoulder and we sat on her bed, "Sorry for taking a second, I got questioned by my parents. They heard about a girl getting hurt, so they wondered if I tried killing someone there, I told them no. My mom wants me to have my first kill soon, but I'm not sure if I'm ready." "Why is that? Why aren't you ready?" "I hate the idea of killing someone to feed, it's why I take these pills, so I don't have to, but they aren't enough. I was born like this, I didn't ask for that, and I feel like they don't understand it." I grabbed her hand softly, she looked at me and I looked into her eyes.

"Juliette, I know what you are, and I can tell you, having your first kill won't make you a monster. Sure, you were born in the category of monsters, but you are not one. I can tell, because if you were, you would be killing aimlessly. You wouldn't be forcing yourself to hurt, forcing blood pills down your throat. I am telling you, and I know you hear it enough from your family, I know that you need your first kill. From what I know of legacies, it is harmful for you not to kill. It's one of the few things that could kill you, other than a legacy." She looked at me confused about the last part, "If you ever come over, I'll let you read my books." She nodded, her eyes drifted to my lips and we were slowly closing the gap between us.

That was until the door opened.
