Masoori, Dehradun
It was a bright winter day, the sun was gleaming in the sky with a comforting warmth in the midst of the cool winter air. The birds were singing the sweet melody that was ecoing in the hearts of both Shri and Riyan.
Shri stood before the mirror, her hands trembling as she adjusted the delicate silver necklace around her neck. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, reflecting the radiant smile on her face. Today was the day – her Sagai with Riyan.
She took a deep breath, feeling the soft silk of her lavender lehenga against her skin. Her hair styled in soft waves adorned with intricate flowers and delicate threads. Shri's thoughts drifted to Riyan, wondering if he was as nervous as she was.
"Muma, how do I look?"
Shri called out, her voice barely above a whisper.
Her mother, seated on the bed, beamed with pride.
"Hamesha ki tarah sundar beta, riyan to dekhta reh jaega"
Shri's cheeks flushed as she glanced at the clock. 10:45 AM. Fifteen minutes until the ceremony.
_______
Riyan paced across his room, his mind racing with anticipation. He adjusted his cufflinks for what felt like the hundredth time, ensuring everything was perfect.
His best friend, Dhruv , lounged on the bed, grinning.
" Relax Riyan. Acha lag rha h tu , agr mai ladki hota na to yahi tujhse shaadi kar leta...chill kar sab shi hoga"
Riyan chuckled, his eyes shining with excitement.
"I hope so"
He glanced at the photo of Shri on his phone, his heart swelling with love. The memories they'd shared, the laughter, and the quiet moments – all leading up to this moment.
"Time to make it official,"
Riyan whispered, taking a deep breath.
Dhruv stood up, clapping Riyan's back.
"Chal bhai you're going to rock this Sagai."
The doorbell rang, signaling Riyan's family's arrival. He smiled, knowing Shri was just a few rooms away, waiting for him.
_______
Shri's mother helped her slip on her heels and handed her the delicate floral bouquet.
"It's time, beta. Tum apne papa k sath jaogi stage pe thik hai? "
Shri nodded, her heart racing. She took one last glance at herself in the mirror, ensuring every strand of hair was in place.
As she stepped out of her room, Riyan emerged from his, his eyes locking onto hers across the hallway. For a fleeting moment, time stood still.
Riyan's tailored navy blue sherwani accentuated his broad shoulders, and his hair was perfectly styled. Shri's breath caught in her throat.
