Sydney's POV
As soon as I got home, I went upstairs to the apartment and looked around with a sigh; this was going to be hard to do. I knew Mom wasn't home yet so I started packing stuff by myself. We still had some of the stuff we came here with,in boxes. We got to lazy to take the rest of the things that weren't important of the boxes; all we needed was our essentials and that's all we took out.
I walked into my small bedroom and began to pack my clothes in the tattered suitcase I brought them in. I sighed as looked at my clothes and knew that my clothes differ sometimes. It could plain and normal, or slutty and exotic. This was because of my job, my old job now, required different attire.
Not really paying attention to the time I hadn't noticed it was 7 o'clock.
'Mom would be home any minute from chemotherapy soon.'
The door open and in came my Mother. Her beautiful hazel eyes scanned around the room before landing on me and they shined a little. I walked over to her and let her put her arm around my shoulder. She was tired, it was evident in the way she looked and walked. I helped her to her room and pulled the covers back so she could sit down. I bent down and took off her shoes and she laid back onto the bed and pulled the covers over her body.
"Mommy, are you hungry? I can fix you some neck bones or pork chops." I looked down as she shook her head.
"Later child, for now I'm fine. Now go and turn off the lights," she coughed as she talked and turned onto her side.
I walked to the light switch and flicked it off and left the room, I made sure the door was open as I went into the kitchen and clutched the counter. I thought to myself about how my mother had changed over the years. She had lost a ton of weight and was basically skin and bones. Her hazel eyes use to be full of life, but they were now faded and red. Her sandy brown hair was now gone and replaced with nothing. Her hands became sore along with the rest of her body and she became tired.
Turning my back against the counter I leaned against it and closed my eyes. I hadn't realize that an hour had passed until I heard feet shuffling against the floor.
"Sydney. What's wrong with you girl? Why are you in here sulking against the counters?" My mother said and folding her arms against her non-existing chest.
I shook my head and pushed myself off the counter. My whole body ached and groan as I had stood in the same place for too long. I stretched and opened the fridge to pull out the pork chops I had put tenderizer on this morning.
"Child, if you don't look at me and address me when I'm talking to you. You ain't too old and I'm not too sick to beat yo ass," she walked towards me slowly and gave me her mommy's face.
"Mom. . . I made a deal today that's going to change our lives."
"What are you talking about child? What did you do? Dear lord, please don't tell me you got into the shit, yo Daddy was in. Didn't I tell you not to get into that."
