Sydney's POV

Deep breaths. In and out. In and out.

I reminded myself to do this every few seconds as I sat with my back to the vanity. I had a million and four people pulling at my curly hair, attempting to tame it by straightening it. When they finally were done someone attacked my face with mascara and lipstick.

After what seemed like hours they all back away and I opened my eyes to be greeted with my mother standing in front of me. Her hands covered her mouth as tears rolled down her cheek.

I mimicked her actions as I studied her. Her beautiful ebony skin seems to be more healthy looking after a few days of the best chemo, her usual bald head was wrapped up in a beautiful lavender turban, she had on a long dress that had a v-neckline with a bodice that connected to her three-quarters sleeves, the waistline was adorned with beading and sequins and link with a split front skirt which fell all the way to the floor and had a sweep train which was, all the same, color as her turban. She had on silver flats and simple silver accessories to make it. Altogether she looked beautiful and like the Momma, I knew before.

"Momma, you look..." I couldn't finish my sentence as a sob came out of me and she raced over and took my hands into her.

"Nuh girl. You betta stop all that crying, you gonna ruin all that pretty makeup they dun put on you face," she said as she looked at me with a smile that touched her eyes.

Taking a deep breath, I swallowed and put a hand over my heart to slow it down. I missed my momma looking like this. Healthy.. Looking this healthy.

"Momma. How do I look?" I spun around and stopped back and in the front.

She didn't say anything for a moment as she stared at me before breaking out into a smile as tears rolled down her cheek, "Just as beautiful as the day I gave birth to you. If yo Father wasn't such a damn fool and was able to see this...He'd be crying from how beautiful his baby girl looks."

I looked down at the floor before looking back up at my mom and smiled. Than something dawned on me. What do I look like? I quickly turned around to the vanity and froze as I saw the person before me. My naturally curly hair was straightened and put into a big high bun, diamond pins shined from around it and in the middle rested my grandmothers old wedding pin that she had wore when she got married ...My something old... My veil drapped down all the way to the middle of my back and brought out the beautiful shine to my hair.

The makeup they put on me was stunning and very simple. They had put on basic foundation to cover up the scars I had acquired from picking at things. The black gel eyeliner they had picked did wonders for my eyes as it brought them out and let the true coffee color shine. The eye shadow they had draped on my eyes was basically the same color as my skin and since it wasn't draped on heavy it was my perfect. The mascara they put on was waterproof in case I started crying and gave volume to my eyelashes as if I had on fake ones. Now onto my eyebrows...THEY HOOKED A BITCH UP. My eyebrow games was heavily on fleek and was strong with the way they filled them in. Finally, my lips, they had been draped in red matte lipstick so and I quote "I refuse to have my lips stained after I kiss you, that's not manly".
