Jai's POV

My head snapped up at the sound of the cell door creaking open. "You're free to go, Mr. Brooks."

I shot up from the uncomfortable bed that was situated in my cell. "Really? Why? I thought I was stuck here for life!", I questioned, gathering my things.

"There was a slight change of plans. A girl by the name Lily is here to pick you up so I suggest you to hurry up."

I thanked the man about a thousand times while I was getting ready. I was thrown in this cell a while ago because of the murder of Daniel.

I didn't know where Luke was at the time, and I wasn't allowed to ask any questions. So, being free, I can get some answers from Lily, or even Luke.

"Lily!", I shouted as I saw her in a distance. She was sitting in the waiting room. Once I saw her facial expression, my smile faded immediately.

"Hey hey, what's wrong?", I asked once I stood before her, bending down to my knees. "L-Luke."

"He didn't hurt you, did he?", I asked, concerned. "He's dead," she whispered quietly, but loud enough for me to hear. I looked up, seeing her eyes pink and puffy, fresh tears escaping her tired-looking eyes.

I felt an immediate lump forming in my throat. "Dead?" She nodded at my question, almost hesitantly. "He was executed in order for you to leave jail."

I shook my head frantically. "There must've been another way! He's my brother! I didn't want him dea-" "P-please just s-stop."

I noticed her shaking slightly and immediately wrapped my arms around her, trying to comfort her.

The sudden pity made her burst out into hard-to-breathe sobs and her makeup slightly smudged under her eyes as she frantically wiped at them, trying to keep strong. It wasn't working.

"I loved him and he left me!", she continued to sob into my shoulder, soaking it slightly, but I didn't care at all. "Hey now, just breathe. Every story has it's ending. His story was just shortened.", I soothed.

"He's in a better place. As cliche as that sounds," I pointed out. "I know he's in a better place, he was fucking depressed," she struggled to speak through her tears and heavy breathing.

I frowned. Why did this happen to someone as sweet and caring as my brother? He never deserved a life like that. He deserved to smile, not evilly grin, be happy and not feel the need to kill for happiness.

It was all just too unfair.

We were back at Lily's apartment and she finally calmed down after a few hours but I know on the inside she's still screaming. I had to keep calm too. On the inside, I wasn't screaming. I was punching myself.

Why was I not there to stop all this from happening? Or, why was I there, that caused all of this. If I never stepped into his life again, I wouldn't have been forced to kill Daniel, have gone to jail and made Luke die for me to be free.

I naturally grabbed at my hair, pulling quite forcefully as I always do when I'm frustrated or upset. "Jai, please- you're not making i-it any easier for m-me." Lily's bottom lip trembled and water lined the bottom of her eyes.

"No no, I'm sorry," I quickly apologised, feeling bad about making her even more upset than she already was, if that was even possible. "I just want him back," she whispered, only just audible enough for me to hear her.

"I know. I do too. But, I'm afraid he's not coming back and life goes on, we just got-" "Shut up! Just.. get out of my house, get out of my life, I have nothing to do with you anymore!" She blurted out, already crying fully. I shook my head. "Whether you like it or not, I'm staying. I'm just as broken as you are, and we need each other right now."

She scoffed, getting up and walking into the bathroom. I rested my head in my hands as I heard the water or the shower turn on, muffled by the door in between us. Deciding to lie down a little, I yawned, noticing how comfortable her couch was, also noticing that I haven't actually slept in a few days.

"Jai!"

My eyes shot open and an angry-looking Lily stood in front of the couch, arms folded. "What?" She rolled her eyes, replying, "Skid-addle. I wanna sit." I smiled slightly, not sure why. I obeyed and sat up straight, head spinning slightly from doing it too fast.

"You okay?" She asked, feeling my forehead. "You look pale." I nodded, closing my eyes. "This happens all the time when I get up too fast, don't worry."

It wasn't getting any better though, as it usually does. "You're not okay," Lily gasped and stood up, pushing me down to lie down again. "When was the last time you ate?" she asked as she ran into the kitchen. I thought for a while. "Like, two days ago."
