Today I realised that friends who never ask how you're doing aren't worth it :-)
《Lily's POV》
I sighed, watching the sleeping boy under my covers. I dabbed his forehead with a cloth one last time before taking it back to the bathroom.
As I rinsed out the cloth, I looked up at myself into the mirror. Knotted hair, pale, tired skin and dark circles under my eyes. There was no word to describe how I was feeling.
Jai seemed to have felt better after I fed him some leftovers that I reheated for him. "Goodnight me," I muttered, being too tired to even know what I was saying.
As I walked out of the bathroom while looking at my sock covered feet, I heard a thump to which my head snapped up.
"Hi."
I stood frozen, scared as hell. "Y-You're meant to be in the institution, little girl." "Luke's not there. Therefore, I'm not there." I rubbed at my eyes, making sure I wasn't imagining things again.
My blood ran cold at her plastered on and bloody smile, which seemed to be forced there all the time. She giggled and ran past me into my bedroom, quicker than I could think of.
Gasping, I turned around and flicked the light switch on, making Jai groan and squeeze his eyes shut. I felt chills creeping up my back as I searched for this girl in my room.
This is so cliché.
I slowly walked towards my cupboard, Jai already snoring. I latched my hand around the door handle and pulled the closet open in one swift motion, unfortunately almost pissing myself at nothing.
I heard a giggle behind me and span around, to find nothing again. "Lily get in bed," Jai mumbled and I sprinted to turn the lights off and sprinted towards the bed, almost squishing Jai as I scurried under the covers.
I grabbed Jai's arm and wrapped it securely around my waist and he didn't protest as he held me even tighter. I felt a little more safe, thinking I was just imagining the girl.
I was proven wrong when I heard little crawling noises in front of my bed. I dared to peak my head up and caught a glimpse of a set of bright eyes staring back at mine. Squirming, I didn't know what to do.
"Why do you keep moving?"
I turned my head to Jai and shushed him quietly and as I turned my head back to see if that creature was still at the foot of my bed, she was nowhere to be found.
Shutting my eyes, I tried to just forget it and go to sleep. They can smell fear.
So fucking cliché.
I woke up to a high-pitched and cracked voice. "L-Luke?" The voice said. Sitting up, I rubbed at my eyes and watched the little girl sitting on the floor with her knees brought up to her chest.
"I-I know you can hear me.. wherever you are. Reserve me a place."
I frowned, noticing how close she was to Luke. Without thinking, I scooted forward and let my legs dangle over the front of my bed. The little girl's head turned and to say she looked sad would've been an understatement.
"Luke's the only person who accepted me for who I am." I nodded, understanding what she meant. "The way you looked frightened by my smile, my eyes, Luke would never have been like that. He said I was beautiful."
Sighing, I didn't know what to do or say. "It's okay. I'm not sad." She continued, not sounding sarcastic. I nodded and yawned. "Don't fall asleep," she spoke. When I asked her why, she shrugged.
"3am is when the monsters come alive." She said it like it was no big deal that she just made me unable to sleep. I turned my head to look at my glow in the dark clock. Huh, it sure is 3am.
A shriek outside my window was heard and my blood ran cold when I saw the little girl grinning outside, her eyes black. "Told you." And she dropped.
