Picture a girl, living in the house next door. Giver her a ponytail and a secret. Day after day, she checks the headlines and watches the local news, waiting to be exposed. And bit by bit, the walls close in, until what was once just a house becomes her own private purgatory.

"Ah, I'm glad I caught you both. Mrs. Lodge and I were heading up to the lake house this weekend, but it looks like we're going to cancel due to some business. So why don't you kids go instead? You know, make a little romantic getaway." daddy tells me and Archie as we're getting our things for school.

"Wow, thank you, Mr. Lodge." Archie tells him.

"That's amazing, daddy." I tell him with a smile.

"Andre can drive you up and stay nearby, in case you want to go into town." daddy tells us.

"No chaperones. Andre can drop us off, and pick us up on Sunday night, we don't need one of your spies shadowing us." I tell daddy.

"Fine, mija. Hey, why don't you invite Betty and Jughead? Make a real weekend out of it." daddy tells us.

"That's great." I tell daddy.

"Hey, before you head off, can I have a word in private?" daddy asks Archie.

"Yeah." Archie tells daddy then picks up his backpack and follows him inside the study.

"Fair warning. Our Shadow Lake is a bit rustic, but it has breath-taking views of the mountains, the water." I tell Betty and Jughead as me, Archie, Betty and Jughead sit in the student lounge.

"Oh, my god. That sounds heavenly, Q. What do you say, Jug? Can you bear it?" Betty says.

"As long as it's cool with your dad." Jughead tells me.

"Mr. Lodge actually suggested it." Archie tells him.

"Yeah." I agree.

"Well, then, cue the dueling banjos. What? And it'll also be a good chance for me to work on my novel." Jughead tells us.

"Excellent! But, the point of this luxury weekend away is to relax and unplug." I tell Jughead.

"Luxury and weekend, two of my favorite words. So, where are we going, and how extravagant a wardrobe should I pack?" Cheryl asks as she walks over to us.

"Uh, sorry Cheryl. It's a romantic, couples-only weekend." I tell her.

"I see. Of course. My mistake. Well, have fun with your romances." Cheryl tells us and then walks out of the student lounge.

"When I was younger, we'd come here every summer, whenever daddy could sneak away for a weekend." I tell Archie as we all get out the car and I admire the view as Archie comes over and stands next to me.

"I'll help you with the bags." Andre tells us and I look back towards him.

"Oh, no we've got it. Right, Archie? Bye Andre. We'll see you Sunday night at 7:00 pm, on the dot. Betty, wait until you see the inside." I say and then walk over to Betty and wrap my arm around hers and lead her inside.
