6 months lɑter - Winter Breɑk - Jɑnuɑri 2025

I park my McLaren in the parking area and patiently wait for Aurora to get out of the psychotherapy appointment. It's been her eighth appointment, and I am lucky enough to say that they've been going wonderful.

"Hey baby," she says with a smile as she gets into the car. I can't hide the smile that automatically appears on my lips as I hear the name of endearment.

One that I hadn't heard in months.

"Hi there, how are you?" I reply, turning to her before even considering driving off.

"I am good," she nods. "It was a very good session today..." she smiles before giggling softly. "You never told me I actually beat you in karting."

"It was once!" I defend myself with a huge grin. "And I did not consider it a valuable memory. I mean... you've been saying those are shitshows regardless."

Aurora immediately notices my teasing tone and slaps my arm, "You are the worst."

"Oh, come on, I knew you'd gain that memory back and pester me about it."

She rolls her eyes playfully, "You are the worst, Lan. But you're forgiven."

I laugh and start the car, "What more did you get into today?"

Sometimes, a session is wonderful; in the session, she remembers things and can question me about them; other times, it is just one blank space. Sometimes, the session is valuable, but as soon as she steps outside the room, the memories are foggy again until a day or two later.

Jesslyn says all of it is a natural progress of healing, but I am already happy to see pieces of the Aurora back we lost. She lost.

"Are you ready for court?" She suddenly asks me. "It's tomorrow."

"I know, and I am more than ready to finally give him the punishment he deserves."

"Good. Because so am I."

For the remainder of the short ride, Aurora did what she always does: stare out of the window and process the tiring session she just had. Sometimes, she would fall asleep, and I would gently wake her when we arrived at her apartment.

"Lan?" Her soft voice barely comes over the soft music of her playlist.

I turn my head momentarily to check if she's awake, and I didn't imagine it, "Yes?"
