She looked so fat. And dumpy.
Luci Moore stood before the full length mirror in her upstairs all pink bedroom. On her bed as well as the dusky pink carpeted floor were piled most of the clothes from her closet. Clothes that she had gotten on a fun little shopping trip at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon Mall in Virginia with her Aunt Faith, her aunt's new live in girlfriend Aunt Pammy and their family friend Miss Susan. That had been fun. They had shopped till they almost dropped and then ate Thai food at a local popular restaurant. Then once back home she had " modeled" it all for her uncles and Miss Susan's husband Uncle Mark. Modeling was kinda fun.
Yet , she noted , as she made a face at herself in the mirror, it still seemed like she had nothing to wear for the first day of school!
The first day of school at a new school.
The first day of school at a new school as Luci. Not Eddie.
She was wearing a cute little frilly pink top and baggy blue denim jeans with her new pink sandals. Her long jet black hair was gathered back from her small brown face in a bouncy ponytail with a pink ribbon. As a back to school gift her uncles had given her the small gold heart shaped earrings that dangled from her ears. Around her neck she wore her favorite gold cross that was a Christmas gift from her Granny Johnson.
She didn't look bad , she grudgingly admitted to herself. Except. Except for that thing between her legs. She hated that thing.
She picked up her phone and took a quick picture of herself smiling and sticking out her tongue. Then texted it with the accompanying words," How do I look? Hideous right? "
It wasn't long before she got back a text message in response.
Sol Klein: Gal , stop playing. You know you cute. And unlike me your MeeMaw don't buy your clothes in the Big Boy section.
Luci smiled and texted back," Big boys are cute too ".
