Luci Moore came inside the hallway of her family's house with a nervous Sol behind her, saying," Stop worrying, Solly ! It's ok ! My uncles don't care if you're here. And your grandma is at the hospital with Jim you said. You can watch TV with me for a little bit while we do homework. "
Sol said cautiously but hopefully," I guess so. Are your uncles even home? It's quiet here. "
Then as if to contradict his youthful words they both heard an odd sound coming from the living room. It sounded like crying. And moaning.
" What's that? ," Luci asked with concern. Had Uncle Spencer fallen again ? , she worried as she moved towards the living room followed by Sol who said," Be careful, Luci. What if it's robbers! "
But it was not robbers that they saw in the living room.
What the two suddenly horrified young people saw was Spencer sprawled on the carpeted floor far from his empty wheelchair. He had a puffy black eye and a bloody lip. His glasses were near his hand and broken. And his dress pants and underwear were untidily yanked down his legs. He was also crying like his heart was breaking.
When he saw them through his vision blurred eyes he whispered," Please.... Don't look at me..... I'm sorry..... Please..... Don't tell anyone..... I'm sorry.... I'm so stupid..... "
Luci, with tears rolling down her face, ran to her uncle and quickly pulled up his pants and underwear. She touched his face and asked," Oh my God, Uncle Spencer, what happened? Who hurt you? "
She cradled him in her arms like he was the one years younger and they cried together.
Sol pulled out his cell phone and with shaky fingers dialed 911.
As Spencer realized that the boy was calling the police he suddenly cried out," No ... Please don't tell anyone. Please..... Please..... I'm sorry..... Call DuBuis.... I need.... DuBuis...."
