FAMILIES
Monday, June 02nd, 1980
The next day, Lisa walked into the hospital building, ready for another day of work.
She started her usual routine, making her rounds in the pediatric unit.
After completing her tasks, Lisa headed towards the exit to the courtyard.
She glanced at the bench where she used to sit with Jeongguk and sighed.
Suddenly, her eyes met Taehyun who remained dressed in his scrub and white coat.
He was pushing a wheelchair through the courtyard, and sitting in it was Grandma Annie, Taehyun's grandmother and a woman Lisa loved dearly.
Lisa was surprised that no one had informed her about Grandma Annie being hospitalized.
"Grandma Annie?" Lisa called out, immediately walking towards them, causing Taehyun to stop the wheelchair.
Grandma Annie turned to Lisa with a pale smile on her face. "Lisa, my dear..." she said, holding out her hand.
Lisa hurriedly took her hand, her concern evident. "Why didn't anyone tell me you were here?"
Grandma Annie's smile widened slightly. "I didn't want to worry about you, sweetheart. It's just a little check-up."
Lisa looked at Taehyun, who gave her a reassuring nod. "She's in good hands. We're just making sure everything's okay."
Lisa knelt beside the wheelchair, holding Grandma Annie's hand gently. "I wish I had known sooner. How are you feeling?"
Grandma Annie patted Lisa's hand softly. "I'm alright, just a bit tired. Taehyun is taking good care of me."
Taehyun smiled down at his grandmother, and then looked at Lisa. "They wanted to run a few tests to be sure."
Lisa nodded, her concern evident. "If there's anything I can do, please let me know."
Grandma Annie squeezed Lisa's hand. "Just seeing you here brightens my day, dear."
They spent a few moments in comfortable silence, the sun casting a warm glow over the courtyard.
Lisa took a deep breath, feeling the weight of her concern lift slightly.
"Do you want some company for a bit?" Lisa asked impulsively.
Grandma Annie nodded. "I'd like that very much."
Taehyun pulled another bench close, and Lisa sat down, still holding Grandma Annie's hand.
Taehyun excused himself to check on another patient, leaving Lisa and Grandma Annie alone.
"I'm so glad you're here, Lisa," Grandma Annie said softly. "You've always been like a granddaughter to me."
Lisa smiled warmly. "And you've always been like a grandmother to me."
