LEAD ONCE AGAIN
Thursday, July 03rd, 1980
It had been a month since Jeongguk Jun was deployed on the ship. His days were filled with rigorous duties, maintaining the ship’s security and readiness.
The routine was familiar, yet always demanding.
He made his rounds, checking the ship’s security points and ensuring all equipment was in working order.
As he finished his inspection near the armoury he heard footsteps approaching.
Turning, he saw Sergeant Seo Jisub and Sergeant Jung Haein heading his way.
"Morning, Private Jun," Sergeant Seo in short greeted with a nod.
"We need to review the security protocol," Sergeant Seo said. "Let's make sure everything is squared away."
Jeongguk handed over the logs he had just updated. As Sergeant Seo reviewed them, he nodded in approval. "Good work. Keep this up."
"Thank you, Sergeant."
Sergeant Seo looked at his watch. "I need to attend to other duties. Sergeant Jung, you stay here with Jeongguk and finish up the rounds."
With that, he walked away, leaving Jeongguk and Haein standing by the railing of the ship.
Haein leaned against the bulkhead, looking out over the deck. "How's your day going so far?"
Jeongguk joined him, gazing at the endless expanse of water. "It's going well, sergeant. Just the usual routine. How about you?"
Haein nodded. "Not bad," he paused for a moment, then turned to Jeongguk. "How's your health? I remember you had some headaches back then."
Jeongguk smiled faintly. "I'm doing better now. No more headaches lately."
"That's good to hear," Haein said, giving him a reassuring pat on the back.
While they were busy with their tasks, Haein looked at Jeongguk with a curious expression. "I heard you received a letter recently. I know it's not the first time, but this one was from a girl named Lisa, right?"
Jeongguk's expression softened. "Yeah. She's... well, she's someone important to me. Where did you hear about this?"
Haein smiled and said, "I overheard them (Minho, Seungkwan, and Youjung) talking about it from a distance," he grinned. "I have good hearing."
Jeongguk chuckled as he thought about the letters he had been receiving from Lisa. "Yeah, she's been writing to me every week. I can't wait to read her latest letter."
He sensed the longing on Jeongguk's face and didn't push further. "Well, whoever she is, you're fortunate to have someone who cares about you again."
